It's a good guitar, but if you're into the low tuning stuff, A G or even an F 8O , then you gotta do something about the pickups. If not, all you're gonna get is a wall of mud. It's tolerable for a while, but not for long
I would advice you to go passives, Dimarzio's, Seymour Duncan's etc.
If i'm not wrong the EMG 707 costs about 180 each, that works out to be about 360 just for pickups alone. And since they aren't direct retrofit, you're gonna have to pay to have the pickup cavity routed and enlarge to fit them in. Plus, if you're going for a battery pack, you're gonna route a small hole at the back to fit that in. All in all you'll be paying more than 500 just for that. Not worth it imo, unless you're really sold on the idea.
EDIT: I forgot to add, you might wanna check the forums of jemsite as well as www.sevenstring.org . They've got some 7 string pickup reviews in case you need to know more
after trying various tunings with my 7string guitar, i'd say that the 7string would handle a whole step of detuning very well. beyond that, there is a need to re-evaluate your pickups & amp to accomodate the low end. this is where baritone guitars come into the picture- they handle lower tunings better 8)
thanks sub for the info... but the only baritone i came across thus far is the mmm1... i found that to be quite a good guitar. however i like 7-strings more.. besides.. i wanna try something different...
theres oso a baritone 7 string ibanez at the aljunied showroom. if im not wrong its an rg 2077 prestige model. dark blue in colour. a discontinued model. price should be around 1.8k.
oic... thanks a lot... but i am kinda looking for ibanez this time round... also... i try to stay away from artist signature model as the ususally cost a bit more...
aaaah!! I'm selling my MMM baritone for $1k! Don't buy brand new!
For chuggy rhythms it's really perfect, not too sure about high-up-there leads because I don't usually go there. When I doodle around with blues licks I DID miss the higher notes for awhile, but it's also a matter of getting to know the guitar better.
Didn't get a 7-string coz I didn't wanna go thru the hassle of coping with the extra strings. It's chord anxiety. So many new chords, so little time
