Hi guys, 5A drumsticks are the middle size and weight. Theres some sites that says its for Jazz and some says its for Rock.

Just wads it suited for?

my question is is it advisable to play heavy stuff with it? i dun like the feel of 5Bs.

i've seen Joey Jordison's signature 515 sticks they're the size of normal 5As so 5As are pretty versatile? won't they break easily playing heavy stuff?

it doesn't matter. as long as you're comfortable holding it. generally 7As are for jazz, cuz 7As are more suitable for lighter playing. 5As are tougher and can take a lot of beating. What's important is whether you feel good holding it, the stick tone (many people don't notice this, but different sticks produce different sounds when hitting cymbals), the weight and length, the tip shape and material of the tip.

I find 5As very versatile. They're kind of in-between so you can use them for delicate stuff and for loud stuff too. Medium-sized sticks with medium-sized tips, not too large and not too small.

I've been using Vater Los Angeles 5As and Zildjian 5As with wood-tips for some time now and they're really very durable even when I play loud stuff. 5As are my sticks of choice in fact.
