2008 Gibson LP Standard

The specs look like improvements alright - modern and practical. But the chambered body can be either a like or dislike for some. Sometimes just got to be wary of certain "upgrades" or "changes" because it also can be a gimmick or cost cutting measures by manufacturers. But this LP '08 upgrades seems OK.

actually they have been chambered since 2007.
the main upgrades are in the neck.
enlarged tenon and most importantly a plek'ed fretboard.

right now if you dont want a chambered body, its called the LP traditional which is basically a pre-2007 LP std but with '57 classics.

gibson marketing again :P

The 2008 is chambered? I don't remember reading that...

Judgin frm my LP BFG which is Chambered that is very true. I was like pleasantly surprised wen i took my first strum on my BFG wen i was testin it. You can clearly hear it resonates.

even if unchambered, the tradtional has the weight relief holes under its maple cap,and dont have resonate as much, only feels lighter and dont affect the tone much.if you dont want any of these stuff, you gotta look at the early or mid 90s les pauls.maybe the lp classic is unchambered, not too sure abt that.
but the stuff on the 2008 standard to me are simply upgrades on a les paul minus the weight that so many are complaining about.its more of response to customer feedback i think

my 06 lp is chambered. but i think the 08 is even more chambered. thats what i guess since they say its an upgrade.
and i thought gibson had locking tuners since quite long ago? =x

I see. I had a 2003 LP Standard and back then it was mostly referred to as chambered. Guess the term was wrong back then. Was disappointed with the fit and finish back then.

I wonder if its really the case of weight-relief=chambered. Its been discussed, and wondered. Is it the change in use of rhetoric? Or have they really made the standard, a BFG.

I think to make a chambered guitar, isn't just about drilling holes in the body. Chambered guitars need a reasonably large body of AIR in that pocket to perform as expected. Small individual holes don't do that. The soundwaves aren't long enough to provide depth, and probably will have little effect on the resultant tone. A large enough chamber on the other hand, would be different. I don't think it's just rhetoric.

I'd say the new Standard has become an Epi Ultra...

yea, the standards since 2007 are basically chambered like the BFG.

right now for a similar price...i would rather get a LP traditional, they're made like the pre-2007 standards with one exception.
57 classics in place of burstbuckers.

tho the plek'ed fretboards of the 2008 standards are pretty tempting.

Anyone can verify the comments made by both whitestrat and everdying? Opposing comments siaz... hahaha... rather confusing...

And if the BFG type chambering is the new standard, why the need to create a new line titled BFG? Anyone have any technical data on where it is chambered?

wat opposing comments?
the epi ultra has about the same chambering as the BFG, just a little more extreme in some areas.
this topic already beaten to death on the lp forum :P

epi ultra.

why new line of BFG?
why studio when the LP std was fine?
why LP custom if the LP std is fine?
choices.
more market domination.
