Amp. Way back, upgraded from a Rocktron R10 to a Kustom KGA65.

so it is from a 10 watts to a 65 watts?

Something like that yea :D My dad didn't want me to buy a 15 watter and complain about it a few months down the road, so he got me a big boy which has stuck with me till now hehe.

So it is important to invest in a good amp? haha...

Vaiyen: so what was ur first upgrade?

Pooo: Whoa! 10 watts jump all the way to a 65 watts amp... must have cost a bomb...

Nope, it didn't really cost a bomb. Kustom amps are pretty affordable, being solid state helps cut down on cost too.

To date i've only had it die on me once when the fuse blew, which was easily fixed after spending 50cents on a new fuse :smt023

Whoa 50cents to repair it!?... my amp is still srong and running... haha...

This is the first time I heard that amp can die off... guess I have to do long term saving to have enough to buy a good amp when the need arises...

Being a noob can anyone tell me how much difference can a pickup make in terms of sound?

imo pickups affect ur setup (volume/gain) much more than ur tonal differences.

though a tele vs strat singlecoils vs humbuckers would sound quite different, but most of us stick to only 1/2 type of different shaped pickups... between models of the same type i think the difference is less.

no matter how good your pickups are, If you play thru effects, your tone is gradually altered. So it defeats the purpose. Its a tradeoff, Effects or Pickups? But theres a solution here. Hint : *coughTUBEcoughAMPcough*

an amp should be the first upgrade, lest effects.

though u could have exceptions. i've thought deeply and found my Trace Elliot amp to be actually quite good and in no need of an upgrade in the near future.

what i'll need is a Shure SM57 mic to start doing recording... 8)

according to the Shure website, the SM58 is for vocals, whilst the SM57 is more for instruments and general stuff.

although the Shure website also says "The Shure SM57 unidirectional dynamic microphone is exceptional for musical instrument pickup or for vocals."

SM58: 50-15000Hz
SM57: 40-15000Hz

they also have slightly different frequency response. (for what that is, to put it in simple terms, when u play guitar at high E string 24th fret, the volume seems to go down, whereas at bass E string 0 fret the volume sounds louder.)

i'll be getting a SM57 since it seems to be more versatile.

and ya, sorry for the mistake, it's a SM57 i'm looking out for.

There are sometimes where solid state amps just own the tube ones :D
