what are advantages and disadvantages of running a 9v pedal at 18v? I've read alot of this on tgp and was wondering why they do it, and why on dirt pedals like the OCD? I know for delays or choruses it gives more clean headroom with more voltage but dirt pedals??

asking mainly because im getting an OCD next week..

heh, i think youmight have just answer the question yourself when you mentioned bout the headroom issue.

Take this as a challenge, when you get the ocd next week, try the pedal with 9v and 18v. Listen if theres any different and what sort of response difference when using different voltage.

Before all the comments out there is swaying your judgement, next week it will be the time to listen for the difference. It will be more interesting, imho.

oh, as for disadvantage, unless you have access to 18v adaptor or using power supply with 18v outlet or using the mod on mike fuller site that do the 18v conversion from battery snap, if not, there might be problem to run at 18v

hmm.. get a 18V electro harmonix adaptor from MrMisse then u need to mod the polarity of the tip as u need negative tip for most 9v pedals and the adaptor is positive tipped.

To do this, just snip the wires and reverse the connections. =)
