I saw this on another forum, this guitar puts manufactuers to shame.
We complain about 3 piece bodies, this guitar has a 7 piece body thats full of knots.

whoah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8O

i wanna learn to built guitar leh. then can go get many2 tables from ikea!!!

bro thor, u noe how to or not? :P

if you see how luthiers go about selecting wood, flaws is the least of their concern. however, it's not about revering bullet-holes riddled planks either.

Is this the one from HC? But hah, anyways, it's hideous...the headstock, like the Gibby Melody Makers is poo!

LOL i agree, It is supposed to be based on the end of a japanese Sword, It seems designing a decent headstock is one of the hardest things for a luthier to do.

thats the way this guy zachary worrks....his guitars are amazing...and his first was the Z1 model, apparently when he first started he was going to dumpster to look for whatev er woods that was being thrown, that's why he has some guitar made from very very obscure wood...i got my and it was made from cherry wood...

No what i meant, with reference to his reply was how does this guitar in any way puts manufacturers to shame? And so what if it's 7 piece full of knots or 3 piece body that's knot free?

No offense to zachary guitars, but that's as far as absurdity can go imho. He may have a hit with this guitar, and unless someone comes up with a way to quantify 'tone'...that'll be my opinion for now.

I meant sacarsm.

I know a lot of people complain about fenders using 3 piece guitar bodies.

Fender for example uses 2-3 piece for their trans colours. The less the better, the better the grain matching the better.

This body has NO grain matching, has obvious 7 pieces of wood as a body and its finished natural.

No one will give a hoot if its covered in a solid finish, but a natural finish you get to see some ugly ass wood there.

There are several requirements for guitar bodys, one is that the wood MUST be knot free. Another is that it must be dry, takes about 5 years to dry it naturally, else if fast, they need to put it inside a klin which is quite an expensive process considering fuel prices are high ATM.

Thats why guitar body blanks are expensive, about 50USD per piece with 1 joint.

And knots in the body is NOT good due to the very dense packing of fibres at the knots.

This guitar puts fender to shame by offering a 7 piece body at $1500.

Note, sacarsm.

Heh in light of the recent threads in this forum nowadays, we truly do not know if it's sarcasm or genuine you-know-what.

Your points are valid in a certain sense, and i do know the factors contributing to the price of the wood blanks. Sad to say though, ppl are still thinking the difference in price for a basswood indo RG compared to a basswood Anderson for example...is simply for the workmanship only.

Talking about the # piece body thing, we can just laugh if those uninformed snobs who simply pluck common comments from forums to use..end up buying a Suhr/Anderson/PRS maple top guitar. Shall not delve in further, but u should know what irony am i getting ah

Nonetheless, it's always entertaining inside here everyday to read some threads that are more ridiculous than what zachary had put up for for this ikea guitar page

Basswood is used in asia cos its plentiful, trust me, if american was full of cheap basswood in the days of leo, he'd have used that instead of alder or ash.

No doubt about that, but the american basswood i've encountered were pretty amazing tone machines

our carpenter friend in msia uses Jelutong and called it mamywoo like he's on first name basis with James Tyler.

oh and Jelutong is similar to Basswood.

Eh, why bother about the wood?

Tone is soooo subjective and no one knows for suuuurrreee how many pieces of wood, or knots or different species of the same species sound... FOR SUREEEEEEE.

Bah. Humbug.

Give me quality wood and as little pieces of wood ANYDAY.

I just speak to slam, speak to speak, but my actions differ - sounds familiar Edo?
