If you had $1200 or anything close to that, what would you get? Especially for those who into hard rock and metal.
$1200 for a new guitar. What would you get?

Easy...a new or slightly used American Standard Strat. I may be biased 
but a) it's a fender b) fender's quality has been pretty darn good lately c) it's a classic look and style and isn't out of place in any band....check Nirvana, Eric Clapton and Iron Maiden. d) you will always easily be able to sell it on if you want something else because someone is always looking for a good 2nd hand Strat!
Get a Fat Strat with a humbucker in the bridge...then you got everything covered tone-wise, from metal to blues to rock.

Either a Fender Japanese HSS Strat or an Ibanez SA series. The rest of the money would go to a mixer and speakers for my room.

if u intend to gig you can't beat a BC rich - looks and sounds the part of a metal guitar.
of course, you're gonna have to spend some money ordering it yourself since DAVIS only brings in the crappy models
