100W Electric Guitar Amp

Hi there, can anyone recommend a versatile 100W guitar amp for a medium sized auditorium? Davis is selling their Marshall AVT100 for about slightly less than $1k.. are there any other amps i need to check out for around that range? Thanks!

:D

well.. .if you are going to mic it up ... a 30 watt tube amp will suffice. For solid state.. perhaps not even neccesary to go into the 100watt zone. A mid size audit will require proper P.A for everything to be heard clearly.

but if you really want a 100watt solid state. Do consider Smarvo (cheap) and Peavey amps.

ahhh, let me rephrase my question.. any good recommendations for an amp for around 1-1.5k? Cleans are important. Only need a light crunch tone. Won't be doing any too heavy distortions either. thanks!

if the auditorium has in-build PA, then a DI comes to mind... something like the Tech 21's SansAmp GT2 or Behringer's GDI-21...

if u'd prefer to use an amp direct well... not too sure bout that... wouldn't lugging it around be a headache?

It's going to be a semi-permanent item in the hall(its not for me personally) so even if its big its ok. Not going to lug it anywhere...

personally i tink the smarvo amps are quite crap..... If its a medium sized auditorium you'll prolly have PAs and monitors on stage. Your Better off getting a 30 to 50 watt tube combo and mic it up, you'll get the same vol as a 100watt SS amp even if your not micing it. You won't change tubes like strings every other week, you prolly only change your tubes once a year or so, but SS amps are really no maintence and if changing tubes once in a while bothers you thn get an SS amp but thats a price to pay for a better tone.

guitar77 is selling their JCM900 for 1.7, if you can, bargain them down to 1.5 and you've got yourself a huge half stack...

5f you want sweet cleans, then the Twin's your baby and you can easily get a second hand one for less than $1.5k. If you want Marshall crunch then try and get a JCM800 combo, the original 1980s ones. The 50 watt version is best and plenty loud enough, only five tubes too. There are a couple that have been on Luthers and around the past couple of months and they are very sturdy amps. Get one if you can.

cheers,

Mark.

If we have time we'll check out the 50w marshall at luther's too. Thanks for the suggestion man. Are they also less than $1.5k?

yes we have 4 stage monitors + house speakers. Currently running through a yamaha 01v digital mixer for the house mix. Our regular setup includes drums, bass, keyboards, flute (miced of course), and the guitars, excluding the vocalists, of which we usually have 3 or 4. We are lacking in a nice guitar amp. For bass we have a hartke bass combo which is pretty decent. We run our acoustic guitars through the stage monitors which is not a problem but tone wise i think electric guitar still better to have its own amp. Currently, all our guitarists have their own multi-efx which they plug directly into the system through DIs. If we do get a nice amp, we'll probably be micing it up too.

thanks for all the suggestions.. cheers! The fender sounds like the deal...
