UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVE POTENTIAL THROUGH CREATIVE COMMUNITY SINGAPORE
Do you have a novel idea with the potential of being developed into a viable creative enterprise but don't know how to implement it? Whether you are a young student, a professional thinking of a career switch or even a retiree or homemaker, Creative Community Singapore (CCS) will help you transform your creative ideas into reality.
This key initiative will be officially launched by Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Dr Lee Boon Yang on Sunday, 24 July 2005. It aims to create new opportunities and inspiration in the Creative Industries which encompass the arts, design and media sectors.
To achieve this, CCS seeks to attract bold, fresh projects that inspire creativity in others and promote community entrepreneurship. Ideally, projects should involve individuals, enterprises, agencies and community groups, with a common goal of strengthening community bonding and identity. The evaluation and selection process for these projects is steered by a 3P (Public, Private, People) CCS Partnership (see Annex A for list of members on the Partnership). CCS will support successful projects through facilitation, co-branding, marketing and co-funding amounting to a total of S$10 million over a three-year period.
First piloted by the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Arts (MICA) in 2004, CCS has since received a total of 70 project submissions and supported 20 projects. Some of these projects have been launched recently and they include HYPE, Street Arts, Noise Singapore, Poetry Slam, Dream Factory and Jam Series. More details on CCS and the supported projects can be found in Annexes A, B and C.
"Through CCS, we hope to provide Singaporeans from all walks of life an opportunity to unleash their creativity and deploy their creative energy and potentially become a part of Singapore's Creative Industries. More than just funding projects, CCS will nurture, harness and showcase the creative potential of Singaporeans. It aims to enhance the creative capabilities and skills of at least 5,000 individuals and play a definitive role in the creation of jobs and business start-ups," said Dr Tan Chin Nam, Permanent Secretary, MICA.
During the official launch of CCS on Sunday, 24 July, 11.00am at Great World City, luminaries from the arts, design and media sectors will be sharing their expert knowledge and personal inspirations with members of the public. See Dick Lee critique potential CCS projects in "CCS Idol", hear Taufik give his renditions of cool jazz favourites, watch and learn as top fashion photographer Geoff Ang shares fashion photography tips and his experience on stage and get creative with Nadya Hutagalung as she shares her passion for painting and curating exhibitions. Other guests will cover digital media, advertising and fashion design. The public will also be entertained by exciting performances from the Jam Series and Wicked Aura. The details of the launch programme is attached at Annex D.
Globally, the Creative Industries are recognised as being pivotal in economic growth, job creation and the revitalisation of communities. Similarly, MICA believes that Singapore's economic and social vitality can be enhanced through the realisation and promotion of creative ideas that are conceived by members of the community. CCS hopes to reach out to more than 50,000 Singaporeans over the project period of three years.
