hmm.. it has been some time since i last posted here. sorry for it being in the wrong section. but this is the most hustle and bustle section of drums. so yea.

here goes. i would like to ask all drummers these following questions.

1. WHY DID YOU START TO PLAY DRUMS?
2. DO YOU REALLY ENJOY PLAYING THE DRUMS? WHY?
3. WHATS YOUR MOTIVATION IN PLAYING DRUMS?
4. WHATS YOUR BENEFITS FROM DRUMMING?
5 WHATS YOUR LOSS FROM DRUMMING?

i was just random playing that day and these questions came across my head. i stopped and stared hard at my drum set. i really paused and sighed, then i walked away. i really cant find the reason. i am trying to search for a new meaning in my drumming. i have been dormant in my drumming for a while due to other life commitments that i have to SERVE, you know the thing that all male singaporeans have to go through. So i would like to shout out to everyone, think these through and share you thoughts. I, sincerely believe this would give you greater understanding of yourself as a drummer if you answer those questions.

CHEERS!!

YAY 1st to comment/post.

1. i started to play drums because i found drums v cool and frm how i see ppl play drums, i realli wish the person sitting on the throne doing those fanciful moves is me.

2. yes i realli enjoyed drumming. each time i drum i feel ( more relax?) ( possibly making others more stress too haha!). i enjoy playing the drums because i of course like drums and the sound of it, and because i have a musical background, i am oso attracted to beats and rhythm. after all, drums are a musical instrument. =)

3. wads my motivation? simple. i aim to be better and whenever a weird and groovy rhythm comes up to my head i will try to rmb it and see if i can play it on the drums. from there i slowly get exposed to more ( weird ) beats? and i believe alot of us might also be motivated to perform or be artists of certain brands? mine too. but right now let is juz hover around the dream to play in my 1st gig.

4. benefits frm drumming.. hmm.. i get better in rhythms perhaps? more exposed to rhythms. and i get happy because its smth i like to do? haha

5. my loss is quite painful though. let me skip it =)

1. WHY DID YOU START TO PLAY DRUMS?
-I started playing drums on a whim. I was just watching drum covers on youtube, (Green Day - Holiday to be specific) And I thought, it would be great if I can play this song on drums. Then somehow, a thought struck me. And I went to PS Yamaha to get my 1st pair of sticks, which I still have with me. Bless the day I made this decision. That was 2 years plus ago, on the 27th December 2007

2. DO YOU REALLY ENJOY PLAYING THE DRUMS? WHY?
-Are you kidding me? I love playing drums man. It feels almost as if I'm a pure-drummer (I just cant play strings) The snare in every song just drives me high and crazy

3. WHATS YOUR MOTIVATION IN PLAYING DRUMS?
-The thought of playing and creating music in a band pushes me to get better and faster. Playing in a band and creating music, it just feels magical

4. WHATS YOUR BENEFITS FROM DRUMMING?
-Self confidence I guess. It's been a dream for me for play in a band, so being able to play in a band fulfill my dreams

5 WHATS YOUR LOSS FROM DRUMMING?
-Nothing, for now

1. Cousin wanted to take lessons, and invited me to go with him. I just wanted to try it out, and after a few lessons I'm totally lovin it.

2. Yes. Somehow the look and the sound of drums appeals so much more to me than bass, guitar, or singing. Hard to explain, really.

3. Watching videos on youtube and seeing drummers like Vinnie, and all the masters make me wanna practice to get better so much. And I also dislike it when I "can't" play something, so I practice til I get it right.

4. Self-confidence. It's also my dream to be in a band.

5. Nothing for now. Maybe time?

Well, we all started playing music cos we enjoy it and cos its fun, even if its the hardest thing in the world. As you progress in your playing, you would wanna play better and constantly push yourself to your limits. For me, after watching the real pros and drummers in my favourite bands beating the shit out of the drums making the crowd go absolutely crazy, makes me wanna do something like that too. What are benefits? The sense of satisfaction that you get after pounding out your favourite songs, mastering a technique, building a solo or just plain going all out crazy over your drums; nothing else can match that feeling you know? Kind of a stress reliever at the same time... The only downside? Drumming has got to be the most expensive musical discipline ever, period. So don't give up yo, stay passionate, love the music, love drumming. Peace out.

1. WHY DID YOU START TO PLAY DRUMS?
Was facinated by the rudiments played by the purcussion section of my primary school band.

2. DO YOU REALLY ENJOY PLAYING THE DRUMS? WHY?
Yes. There is no end learning something new and be creative.

3. WHATS YOUR MOTIVATION IN PLAYING DRUMS?
The challenge of independant playing with all kinds of groove.

4. WHATS YOUR BENEFITS FROM DRUMMING?
Good for the brain - psychomotor.

5 WHATS YOUR LOSS FROM DRUMMING?
It is all gain - gain skills, gain attention and gain an extra $1K monthly in teaching :)

Thought playing drums was cool shit (it still is). Wanted to learn to play music and drums somewhat called to me.
Something abt percussions make the heartbeat faster

2. DO YOU REALLY ENJOY PLAYING DRUMS?WHY?
Feels great to play drums in a band, being behind the music. You can do all kinds of crazy shit and not get bored of it. Going all out really relieves stress and the feelung is much better after that.

3. WHATS YOUR MOTIVATION IN PLAYING DRUMS?
When i hear a cool groove or beat, it just makes me wanna learn and try it out. Or seeinf someone doing some cool shit and try to match or better it.

4. WHATS YOUR BENEDITS FROM DRUMMING?
I hate to exercise so i can safely say drumming is my only way of seriously working out. And really helps with reflexes too. Other than that its a great way to bond and make new friends. Also a damn great way of life

5. WHATS YOUR LOSS FROM DRUMMING?
Money and convenience.

WHY DID YOU START TO PLAY DRUMS?

When I first started listening to Led Zeppelin albums. I wanted to be just
like John Bonham.

2. DO YOU REALLY ENJOY PLAYING THE DRUMS? WHY?

Yes absolutely; I can't explain, but it makes me happy.

3. WHATS YOUR MOTIVATION IN PLAYING DRUMS?
Watching my favourite drummers like Bonham, Bill Ward, Lombardo and some of
the new drummers inspire me, and being able to see progress after all that
practise. That really pays off.

4. WHATS YOUR BENEFITS FROM DRUMMING?
My wrists, forearms and my calf are definitely stronger. I also noticed
that my hand-leg coordination is better than before I started drumming.
Getting praise from friends is another thing. I also learnt how read music
along the way which definitely helps me to appreciate and understand music
better.

5 WHATS YOUR LOSS FROM DRUMMING?
That damn tennis elbow that doesn't seem to go away. It hurts like hell.
And of course money spent on booking studios and equipment.
