Hey fellow drum nerds!

Just curious, which drummers have influenced you playing the most? I know the list could possibly go on forever, so just pick say 5ish

For me, apart from my various teachers etc...:

Stuart Copeland - The Police
Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson - The Roots, D'Angelo
Billy Martin - Medeski, Martin and Wood
Jeff Ballard - Brad Maldhau, Josh Redman
Kenwood Dennard - Maceo Parker

It's hard to stop at 5 i know.... so many awesome drummers.

In no particular order,

Matt Helders
George Barnett
Dave Turncratz
Aaron Gillespie
Zac Farro
Steven Ansell
Jack Bevan

..and many other drummers and beat-makers. I wanna mention people like Jojo Mayer, Carter Beauford, Akira Jimbo and other drummers of their calibre, but I just can't do the things they do. Haha.

1 - Jimmy Chamberlin (The Smashing Pumpkins)
2 - Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters)
3 - Yukihiro (L'Arc~en~Ciel)
4 - Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers)
5 - Dave McClain (Machine Head)

Ian Paice
Cozy Powell
Dave Lombardo
Neil Peart
Clive Burr
Nicko McBrain
Vinny Appice
Vinnie Colaiuta
Munetaka Higuchi
John Bonham

... and a few others but these 10 are tops on my list (in no particular order).
I don't really like some of the bands they played with but I just love their drumming.

Cool, thanks guys. Good to hear what you guys dig.

Like you, there are sooooooo many drummers I admire and love to listen to, but i don't know how much they've directly influenced my playing style.

Keep em comin'!!! :D

For me, it will b....

Mike Portnoy
Dave Lombardo
Jason Bittner
Neil Peart
Yoshiki

Abit of others drummers. basically, tis are the drummers that have influence me ALOT......

I admire alot of drummers,

but the ones that influence me the most is,

Chad Smith and John Bonham.

It has been a long time since i post anything on soft.

1) Steve Smith
2) Akira Jimbo
3) Dennis Chambers
4) Dave Weckl
5) Thomas Lang

Still got more la...

5 is so hard to choose, for every 1 that was major, there are so many other drummers we need to listen to for that bigger story.

from art blakey, i went on to elvin jones, tony williams, max roach, jack dejohnette, jimmy cobb, lenny white, al foster, buddy rich, joe morello

from tony williams, i found john mclaughlin, and discovered billy cobham, peter erskine, airto moreira

from billy cobham, i found john scofield, discovered bill stewart, adam nussbaum

from jaco, i found pat metheny, discovered paul wertico, danny gottlieb

from akira jimbo, i went on to harvey mason, alex acuna, carter beauford, found steve gadd

from karen carpenter, the trail lead to buddy rich, then stopped there

from bozzio, it looked like yoshiki tried to emulate him (even down to the big hair) i found traces of colauita, found chad wackerman, discovered wackerman had a younger brother.

from vinnie, it just stopped right there, he is just madness

from wynton marsalis, discovered there was a whole family of musicians, i found jason marsalis

from steve gadd, found dave weckl, vinnie colauita, jeff hamilton, rediscovered peter erskine

from chick corea, i rediscovered dave weckl and pattituci

from jeff porcaro, i found simon phillips, found more harvey mason and joel rosenblatt

from oscar peterson, i discovered martin drew, bobby durham

and it goes on and on

so many different points of discovery, and some of them hold that missing piece to a puzzle.

i would like to listen to as many musicians and drummers as possible, its so hard to keep the list to 5!!! sorry hehe

1. Dave Weckl (Chick Corea Electric Band)
2. Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band)
3. Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers)
4. Akira Jimbo (Casiopea)

That's all I can think up of now. But of course there are other greats like Omar Hakim, Joe Morello, Art Blakey, Max Roach and on and on...
