Passing the vocalist's voice through effects

Hi guys

I am jsut wondering. If I cant sing very high key, are there some effects which I can pass my voice thru and it'll hit one octave higher? That'll be cool. Or even make screaming kinda effects. I think that this must be on the market - just that I dont know.

Anyone listened to the strokes' records? I often think that the vocalist's voice is being passed thru some effects. It's cool

Julian, the dude from the Strokes, actually sings through an old peavey amp in the recordings for Is This It. That's what gives it it's unique character. No effects I think. You should be able to get pretty close with compression.
