Firewire not detecting any device

Hi, i just installed new firewire, into the pcmcia slot. it installed propperly, even in the device manager. its working without any error. but when i insert the firewire cable, it is not detecting any devices. i have installed the software too but it does not help. any guides to troubleshoot this problem?

I had a similar issue with a firewire interface. I traced the issue to a cheap firewire cable. Make sure you use a decent quality cable with a balun at both ends. Some a the crappy cables work ok for hard drives but are no good for other devices.

Most PCMCIA FireWire cards cannot supply power, if your device has the option of powering up with an adaptor or batteries make sure to use them.

Good point. The 4 pin firewire plugs don't have power..the 6 pin one should (but sometimes don't)
