Drop A# tuning

it means that you drop tune your guitar from a drop D tuning by 2 steps.

this means your guitar's tuning will be

c, g, d#, a#, f, a#

and let me guess... you're trying bmth's songs?
i bet your strings will be too floppy

kay i just saw your link, and yes you are covering bmth's song -.-

Drop Bb would be appropriate but the notes are essentially the same as A#.

In this order from 6th to 1st string :

Bb F Bb Eb G C

haha!! this song is damn easy to cover... thr thing is people had problems tuning down their guitars... i'll try to break it down...

first important thing..

here's a little thing u might wanna note down..

C-Db-D-Eb-E-F-Gb-G-Ab-A-Bb(just showing out.. hehe....)
or
C-C#-D-D#-E-F-F#-G-G#-A-A#

note: B and E does not have #...

half-step/semitone: e.g C to C#,

so,

C + (half-step/semitone) = C#

e.g.
C + 1/2 step(up) = C#
E - 1/2 step(down) = D#

one-step/whole tone: e.g C to D,

so,

C + (one-step/whole tone)= D

e.g.
C + 1 step(up)= D
E - 1 step(down)= D

and another thing...

(half-step/semitone)+(half-step/semitone)= 1 step/whole tone

it is just like,

1/2 step +1/2 step = 1 step

------------------------------------------------
C-C#-D-D#-E-F-F#-G-G#-A-A#

so for a little revision for you...

if u want D to go to C, you are going in one step down

D - 1 step(down)= C

or

D - 1/2 step(down) - 1/2 step (down) = C

------------------------------------------------

for example i want my guitar from standard tuning (Standard E) to Dropped D... so,

standard tuning (Standard E)

[E
[B
[G
[D
[A
[E (your 6th string) = E - one step(down) = D

so ur guitar is tuned in..

Dropped D

E
B
G
D
A
D

see, u just move 1 step down for E to D :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

How about a guitar from standard tuning (standard E) to half-step down (Standard D#) tuning???

standard tuning (Standard E)

[E (your 1st string) = E - half step(down) = D#
[B (your 2nd string) = B - half step(down) = A#
[G (your 3rd string) = G - half step(down) = F#
[D (your 4th string) = D - half step(down) = C#
[A (your 5th string) = A - half step(down) = G#
[E (your 6th string) = E - half step(down) = D#

so your final tuning will be in

Half-step down (standard D#) tuning...

D#
A#
D#
C#
G#
D#

voila! so simple!

-------------------------------------------------------

dude, a song chelsea smile by bring me the horizon is in Dropped A#....how?

assuming ur guitar is in standard tuning(Standard E)...

------------------------------------------
for example

first,
from Standard Tuning(E), EADGBE
tune it to Dropped D -----(only 6th string is moved from E.. 1 step down)...
so ur guitar in now tuned in DADGBE

secondly,
From Dropped D, DADGBE to Dropped A#(your desired tuning).. so you have to shift the whole guitar tuning in two step down

E: E - 2 step(down)= C
B: B - 2 step(down)= G
G: G - 2 step(down)= D#
D: D - 2 step(down)= A#
A: A - 2 step(down)= F
D: D - 2 step(down)= A#

so your tuning is now in Droppped A#

C
G
D#
A#
F
A#

how easy :)
btw this is just one way of tuning it down to ur desired tuning(Dropped A#)

---------------------------------------------------------------

hope you do appeciate my little lengthy effort on this... hehe!
most importantly u understand the aspects of tuning ur guitar... either in standard or dropped tunings.. and also the half-step/semitone and one-step/whole tone sections... alryte??!!

P.S.
Learn some music theory.. it might help.. hehe!:)

Wow! Syuk90 u really took the effort. Did'nt expect to see a small theory lesson in this thread, but thx anyway. Learnt smth out of it too.

omg syuk's reply so detailed.

BUT, since dropped D is DADGBE, i thought dropped A# would be A#ADBGE. kk i noob. hehehe. but man, with that tuning, i think i can bend the strings one round the neck.

this is why i'm trying to rectify... you know like some wannabe or yaya guitarists who wanted to tune down their guitars to play some songs that requires low tuning (e.g. some couple of metal songs).. they only tune the 6th string down and the rest of the strings remained standard (E) and unaffected.. for example of what u say just now.. "since dropped D is DADGBE, i thought dropped A# would be A#,A,D,B,G,E"
this is misleading and incorrect... it's should be A#,F,A#,D#,G,C..
so it should be this is wat i'm trying to point out actually.. just showing u guys and hope u guys understand. it's okay to be noob, at least u learn something worthwhile.. hehe :)

Don't bother with drop tuning if you don't know what a half step is.

If you insist on doing so, use gauge 12s.

gotta say that that is very frank, but i have to agree
drop tuning just make ur low 6th string an octave lower than the 4th string

and yeahh.. it's partly true guys.. recommended if you able to use high-gauge or thick-sized strings e.g. thicker than .10-.48/.12-.52 for ur strings... if u use lesser size than that i bet strings will wobbled in some ways although it might easier to fret a note...

yeah! i know of some guys who play BFMV songs in drop C by tuning to CADGBE..hahaa

Yup thanks guys for the detailed reponses and straightforwardness. Will try to digest the information given by syuk90.

I know I'm not that good in guitar, just that I'm obsessed with the song and wanna cover it. Will try to improve on my theory too. :)

haha! no prob mate... and it's really fine to be a noob, rather than being a show off... learn something new, and learn more :)
