Beginning of 2010, Simon Yong decided to try something he has never done - to go solo. "It's about putting what I've learnt over the years on a proper recording - a compilation of concepts, ideas, and imagination."
"The famed guitar dribbler" (Zul Andra, I-S Magazine, 2010) who is also a proud endorsee of ESP guitars and Audio-Technica handpicked some of Singapore's most exciting musicians for the project. The line-up includes Brandon Khoo (Shirlyn & The UnXpected) on drums, Nal Goodfellas (Goodfellas) and Yazeid Rahman (KINGS) on bass, and Joanna Lim (Shirlyn & The UnXpected, Zero Sequence, KINGS) on keyboards. The project also features jazz prodigy Kerong Chok on keyboards, the very talented multi-instrumentalist Joan Chew on electric violin, and African djembe maestro Helman Kamal (Fanka Fellas, 53A) on percussions.
Produced and arranged by Simon himself and engineered by legendary producer/engineer Mr Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed Studios (Singapore), Alien Stole My Whiskey is a progressive-rock guitar instrumental album written and recorded between November 2010 and May 2013, and mastered by Ed Brooks at RFI Mastering Studio, Seattle, USA in June 2013.
