Zakk Wylde's Guitar

anyone tried this?
What i thought was this guitar is quite good in tones/sound but then it's quite hard to play though...
Any opinion on this guitar?

How do u define hard to play?... hard to play comparing to other type of guitars, or comparing to other lespauls?

i find generally lespauls loses out in playability but superior in tone.

Haven't tried it, but my kneejerk reaction is "overpriced signature on an already overpriced brand..."

However, I've seen some good reviews on it despite the price. Personally the shaved neck isn't my cup of tea and will dirty quickly - like an EVH Wolfgang. I guess this is for real hardcore fans. Casual Wylde fans like me make do with the ZW44 Overdrive pedal at about 1/100th of the cost... ;)

I actually love the unfinished neck on this particular specimen. I wish Epi would release an LP standard with an unfinished neck like the Zakk Wylde model, as I'm not particularly hot for finished necks. The neck profile of the Zakk Wylde is also thinner and faster than the normal Epi LP Standard.

This is a highly playable Epi LP. The pickups are nothing to write home about though. As for the design, it's either you love it or hate it.

I really like the look of an unfinished all maple neck on a Les Paul. Epiphone has the new ZW signature model: Camo finish... awesome!

Besides, finished necks get kinda sticky over time... and those jumbo frets on the ZW models sound good. But I have to agree... way overpriced.

I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul... the neck does feel sticky after I get a-little sweaty

I'm guessing the Poly finish is stickier compared to a Gibson or other Nitro finished necks?

My main attraction to the ZW camo model would be the maple fretboard and neck (unfinished) and jumbo frets... yummY :P

Hard to play as in, I can't acess to higher frets like 22 frets in a split second because the thing there started blocking at around 20th fret.. so if i have to play on the 22nd fret, my thumb and hands have to lower(usually i put my thumb around the neck) to reach out for the fret..

so thats y those les paul players when they wanna play those very high frets, the play it with the guitar vertically straight? good what, looks more cool when u have to do that. just like slash.

i've tried this guitar at the swee lee bras basah branch. thinking of getting it cuz its a pretty gd guitar and i love zakk's signature harmonic squeals man! haha. the epi version is listed as 1.5k but they're selling it around 1.2k after swee lee's 'discount'... go bargain, u shud get it at a better price la.

the unfinished wood is damn gorgeous imo. and its a pretty playable guitar to me (low enuf action, comfy neck, etc). reason y sum of u mite find it diff to play is probly cuz the strings of the displayed 'testing' guitar is freakin rusty like hell (dunno whether they actualli bother to change it now tho). comes wif gold hardware and GROVER tuners *heaven*!!! this guitar is pretty man!=) onli issue.... its freaking heavy like hell! but i guess the weight gives the guitar a pretty 'solid' feel, to me at least. the epi version comes wif the emgHZ pickups instead of the emg81/85 combi which zakk wylde uses. dunno whether its juz me, but playin pinch harmonics seems to b effortless on almost all the frets man. as if, the guitar's made specifically to produce pinch harmonics, suited towards zakk wylde's playin.

well thats my 20 cents opinion of the guitar. heh :)

Epi Zakk's LP come with EMG Hz pick ups. Most of the owner change the pickups to 81/85, so you may need to consider for additional costs.

I heard that bull eye is a decay not paint job. Not sure how long it will last.

Zakk acquired this guitar in 1989. This was a black Les Paul Custom which he converted into the Confederate Flag. He made the guitar out of respect to Gregg Allman and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Then, Zakk saw a photograph of Brett Michaels (Poison) with the very same guitar, so he purchased sandpaper, and it began to sand his guitar.
Zakk also replaced the string holders in the bridge in order to raise the strings higher. In 2003 it was damaged and Zakk brought it back to Gibson to get repaired.

too bad they dun sell it in stores :(

Is it suitable to play Metal with this guitar? Or play any Metallica stuffs?
