oceanus83 ^ "Also Tarja Turunen, former lead singer of Nightwish...I'm not a fan of Anette Olzon's voice, but I still love Nightwish's new album because Tuomas is an awesome composer and song-writer."
If I ever met that Annette live, I'd choke her with the mic cable for butchering the old Nightwish songs. Have you heard her singing them? It's beyond painful!
Hahahaha, great minds think alike. I haven't actually heard or watched her sing live, only on the new album...and I'm not sure I'm liking what I hear. Her voice is kinda flat and when she tries to get to the high notes, I feel like her voice is straining. Not good. I know they wanted a lead singer who'd break away from operatic singing, but this is really pushing it. They could've at least got someone like Sharon Den Adel or Vibeke Stene. Sort of classical-sounding (Sharon has no vocal training at all), but decent, you know? Oh well. Maybe Annette should refrain from singing old Nightwish songs, but if she doesn't, who will? Heh.
Yay, another Loreena fan! It's so hard to find her fans in Singapore! Maybe her genre is kinda acquired to most. She's awesome.
I completely agree. I think the transition from the opera-voice to clean-voice change was just way too drastic, esp when Annette has a habit of vocal scoopings everywhere... Vocal scoops are nice but I think she completely overdid it.
sage: I watched everything, as well as other songs like Sleeping Sun. Gah, I don't know what to think. I miss Tarja's voice. I don't think Anette is a bad singer. I like her voice on certain songs like Eva and Meadows Of Heaven and I think Tarja wouldn't have been able to pull off those songs...there are some songs that are suited for classically trained singers and those that are suited for pop-rock singers. Oh well. I just wish that Anette didn't sing the old Nightwish songs. Seriously, she butchers them. That said, I do like her style of singing. I just miss Tarja. *lol* She doesn't sound too good as a solo artist, to be honest...
Bono from U2. He can go off-tune once in a while but his emotion is awesome, as with his stage presence. No need to provide videos I think, he's quite well known and he's been listed earlier on this thread too.
Jon Bon Jovi. Excellent singer, can really hit the high notes.
Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge. Another very emotional singer. Especially on this track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEwBZegmcXc), considering that he didn't write the song...
Yup, four of my favourite vocalists. For me, I'd like vocalists who have passion and emotion in their singing. They need not be pitch-perfect 100% of the time. They simply must convey the song's meaning.
