Your audio equipment

I know everyone here is a music fan - so what is your set-up for listening to music? I strongly believe good equipment makes a lot of difference when it comes to listening to music, and I'm curious to know what set-up people have have at home to listen to their music.

I'll start:

I have a Marantz CD6000OSE CD player, hooked up to a vintage NAD 3020A amplifier driving a pair of Mission 700.2 speakers. The speakers are almost 20 years old, but is pretty impressive in terms of clarity.

For personal listening (mostly in the office), I have my Sony MP3 player NW-HD5 hooked up to a pair of Grado SR-60 headphones. The Grados are simply amazing.

at home... im using klipsch 2.1 speakers...normal stuff on my laptop.. very good speakers. If im having a party i'll hook up my mackie SRM350 with 1401 mixer and play mp3 playlists.

late at night... its also grados SR60 for me... these are really nice.

i use computer speakers and
audio techinica earphone with a cheap
crappy mp3 player...

...
you guys are audiophiles, nuts or rich...

im using cd63ki moded by tslim and nad304 amp and bnw speakers..

for computer im listening either the creative audigy or m-audio 2496 connected to sonic gear speakers...

now im thinking of connecting mixer or computer audio card to nad speakers..

This is really impressive.

My laptop's speakers are stock, and are quite weak. Can I do anything about it?

im using them grados too! audigy 2/ipod into grado sr-60 cans.

I play from my Powerbook most of the time, connect it to an old 10 year old Atlantic M-100 subwoofer leading to two satellite Pattern speakers.

The setup is so old, used and seasoned, it just gets better with age and is really music to my ears.

:D

where u guys get your grados 60 and for how much? they sound like what i'm looking for...

and this thread should be in the audio section, for audiophiles :D:D:D lol

I got my Grados from the US. But locally, you can get them from Adelphi. I think the shop is called Music By Design. You can check with the other hi fi. I think it's around S$150 (not sure, you'll need to check), but I think for that money, it's as good as it gets. I'm sure the other folks who owns the Grados can vouch for the performance. I think the SR-80s have better bass, though I have not tried them. It's really incredible how a good pair of headphone can reveal details that you can probably not hear using those more common ear pieces. To me, it brings music appreciation to a different level.

No lah, we're not really audophiles. Those people talk about equipement that are thousands of dollars. I'd rather spend money on getting more CDs. I guess that's what differentiate us from those audiophiles.

I have a pair of quite old Cambridge Soundwork 2.1 multimedia speakers. So maybe time to upgrade? I heard KMlipsch is good. Might be a bit priccier though.

Shit, I'm confused.

We are talking about external speakers connected to our respective PCs/laptops. Or are we talking about o swapping out the soundcard or whatever that's inside?

Apologies.

since we are at this and im getting my car soon, may i know which sound system for car is gd (brand or model etc).. i know nuts about these..

aye thanks naglfar, just to double check, Adelphi is...? right now i think i'm mixing it up with all the other delphi's in singapore...

yes i agree, the only thing more important than the source (CD, mp3, etC) is the reproducing device (hifi, headphones).

right now my dumb PC is using an integrated sound card (for mp3 and simple music, i see no need for an expensive one, i'm not an audiophile in-game) hooked up to an old Hi-Fi with internal BBE system and everything sounds wonderful.

Adelphi is the building opposite of Funan. That's the audiophile HQ for singapore...in a way.

phil, i think a good set of speakers would be a waste if you are relying on that intergrated soundcard in your laptop.

I agree. But probably don't need to be be too high-end too. I am using a decent Audigy, and I'm pretty happy with it. But that's not my main listening system. I always revert to my hi-fi set-up for more serious listening. I still think no multimedia speaker can beat a proper hi-fi set up.

The... the building connected to grammaphone and has an old chang kee outside?

And i agree, Hi-Fi produced sounds cannot be matched with any speakers, even those 2 spkr 1 woofer systems (those are prolly more for gaming or if u're into really boomy bass)
