Young guitarist

decide how much you are willing to part with to fund your new musical journey. Then go to a mega store like swee lee... and try anything you might like.. slowly make your decision.

alternatively u can get a second hand one if you are on a lower budget... deals can be found on soft or luthermusic class ads... :)

Definitely look for second hand options. There are plenty of people selling guitars here, look on the classifieds here and on luther music's website. There are quite a few good guitars on sale each day.

You can get an excellent second hand electric for less than 300 bucks. Avoid the marquee brands like Gibson, Fender, etc, look for the mid range models from Ibanez, Epiphone, Yamaha, Cort, etc.

Budget for the amp, cables, bag, and one or two effects.

Important to get something good, so you don't feel demoralized cos of high action, uncomfortable playing factors usually associated with the real budget stuff. Fork out a lil more, get something better, and something you'd love to enjoy playing.

I don't mean to pour cold water... but MackSonne, you should search the forums for topics on this. Its been done over and over, countless times already.... ;)
