hey dude, im probably getting the one u're looking for. i just came back from yamaha. and i'll share the pricing with you,but my price is a yamaha student price.

Stage custom (from what this sales person says, its a mid-end set, but definately better sound quality than the low-end one)
$1514.06

A set of ZBT cymbals
$369

Total = $1883.06 (yamaha student price)

The Lower-end series + same set of ZBT cymbals = around $1200 (yamaha student price too)

so difference of mid-end and low-end will not be more than $600, probably around $500+

so it depends on you entirely whether u wanna get e mid-end or low-end one, to me, it dosent really makes a difference, cause the specs of the drums are the same. only thing is he claim that theres a sound quality difference, but i guess all that can be done if u know how to tune your drums properly? and low-end one has lower resale price as compared to the mid-end stage customs. thats all dude :D

heh. i shall add my two cents worth. yamaha has very good hardware. due to yamaha motors. yea. but the entry levelkits are made in indonesia. further more its mahagony. so you do the math. a pdp made in mexico full maple is 1.7k?

Regardless of whether it's a Yamaha Stage Custom or Yamaha Maple Custom or even a Recording Custome - All the Yamaha Drums Hardwares are now made in Indonesia (no longer Japan)- this is not a problem.

Yamaha Hardware are really good, easy to adjust angle and so on.

I'm sure - A Yamaha Stage Custom will not sound any worst than a PDP Maple upon proper tunning....The Yamaha are very nice entry level kit....so had I heard a PDP which sound superb upon tuning by a soundman (like DW).....

It's a Personnal Preference here with Brands - choose what you like best. Both are great drums.

cheers !

whirlypop, dude, DO NOT BUY ZBTs.

REPEAT, DO NOT BUY ZBTs.

If you want beginner cymbal pack with decent sound, get it from Drums Resources instead. The Istanbul "Samatya" series completely and totally destroys the ZBTs in terms of sound quality and overall value.

hmmm, personally i prefer paiste cymbals. but im just buying for the sake that i have a student price for it. but i haven got time to check out the price for other brands yet. could anyone who knows the price of a set of cymbals please tell me? :)

RD once mentioned that for a budget price, its better to get Paiste PST 5, which retails for $600 the last time I checked. This was his personal opinion, and I happen to agree with him. Again, this is my personal opinion. Of course, there are other brands such as Istanbul Samathya, which retails for $650.

In case you may be interested, Killerbee is selling his Paiste PST 5. The URL is below:

Hope this helps... :)

Killerbee is a she though... paiste pst5 are great for rock and that kinda stuff due to it's brightness...

it's REALLY bright, with bright decay and overtones and not really much tone to it..

save more and get A customs or sabians.

FYI: good cymbals doesn't come cheap...

and istanbul samatya or pst 5 are considered the "low end" cymbals...

if ur talking really good cymbal packs like AA/AAX... HHX/HH range.. they go about THOUSANDS of dollars bro...

From what i know, ZBT's are not even considered cymbals in america.. they are considered Hardened trashcan lids...

thats HOW BAD ZBT's are rated... really sucky stuff...

Oh...sorry Killerbee. Apologies for my stereotyping of gender.

Yup, Marc is spot on about PST 5 being bright. And, I also agree that ZBTs are, to put it mildly, not that up to standard.

Anyway, Whirlypop, you can try sending a PM to Killerbee. Her cymbals look new, at least in the photo that she sent to me, and her selling price is slightly higher from the retail price of the ZBTs. Better to pay a little bit more and have something that sounds better, if you are deciding only between the PST 5s and ZBTs ... :D

haha. i really feel too. dun get da zbts. dun buy something for the sake of a little discount. save abit more then buy. yep. as many have said zbts are not good. yup. pst5 is seriously much better. yep

sorry i have to disagree here. i am using a pair of zbt's in church. my guess is its seasoned for more than 5 years at least. they have the super seasoned look on them, complete with dirt build up and a hint of finish corrosion.

but they sound excellent and serve the purpose. very crispy, can be both loud and soft when needed.

but im also guessing, that a brand new one would sound comparably sucky as opposed to seasoned ones =D

anyway, do check out the other brands made available by the other people who bring in music equipment in sg too. bosphorus and turkish.

yeah well, a seasoned cymbal will gain some "patina" to it's surface.. meaning some soft of oxygen acting towards the metal and making the looks of it...

it somewhat changes the molecular structure of the cymbal thus changing the sound...

though a low end cymbal can be converted into a high-end sounding cymbal by private artisans... there was a post by weckl-x on this european artisan who does hammering and lathing to this type of cymbals... the sound is ONE OF A KIND!

but considering the freight cost, service cost, time accumulated, It'll cost MORE than a good cymbal pack... might aswell get the good cymbal packs or buy high-end cymbals piece by piece..

i've never heard a single good zbt cymbal, other than a 6 year old crash in my old secondary school. the zbts back then were a LOT better than the zbts NOW. zildjian seems to think that they can cut back the quality if there are kids willing to buy cymbals for cheap.

i think they're trying to push the ZHT line now... maybe they just wanna phase out the zbts.

hmmm, i'd agree that ZBTs are like hard trash can lids la..but i guess i can only accept the fact that there are suitable to hit as rides only..ones u start crashing it..it really sound so horrible..whereas PST have very bright sound. but dont know for what, zildjian are more well known. -__- when others are better.
