Yamaha Pacifica or Timbre?

Hey people, I'm really interested in learning the electric guitar and have been reading up on the net. I'd say guitars equipped with humbuckers suit me better because of it's heavy tone. Two guitars which caught my eye were the pacifica 112 and the timbre sr200. From what I know, the difference in price between the two is close to $150.

Is it worth it for the $150 difference just for the change in one pick up? Are there any other differences between them? appreciate any inputs from you experienced guitarists. thanks!:)

The pictures of Timbre guitars on the standard value website (http://www.standardvalue.com.sg/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=4) looks solid but i've never tried one so i don't know how it feels/sounds.

I own a pacifica 312 MII (discontinued taiwan model, replaced by the 412) and I find it very well built when i set it up myself. No quirks like warped necks, uneven frets etc. But they hardware was bad and thus i spend about $80 overall changing volume pots, jacks and rewiring. Stock pickups were good but i swaped them out for dimarzios anyway.

In the end, it boils down to how well built the guitar is and what cavity the guitar has. I assume the 112 has a H-S-S config (1 humbucker, 2 single) which is quite versatile, imo. But the Timbre SR200's S-S-S config is not all bad. There are replacement humbuckers around the size of a single coil and they really do sound close to their fullsized brothers. If you get a Timbre SR200, you can replace the stock pickups with these fatter single coil-sized humbuckers next time.

Timbre has different models, 1 with HSS config which the bridge humbucker might appeal to u. 1 thing abt Timbres is that the stock pickups handle hi-gain stuff excellently, even the single coils. No noise. Or u might wanna try the Knight LP featured on the front page of the SV site.

Mike stocks up on some really cool stuff. Go to Standard Value and check out their stuff.

I haven't tried any of the Knight (Acepro) stuff but I tried one of the Timbre strats. Really nice sound, solid feel and didn't see any craftsmanship flaws...

I personally don't like Yamahas but that's one man's opinion...

timbre's pup cavity is swimming pool routed..

so u can even have HHH...but the thing is..u gotta route the pickguard..
shudnt be much of a problem i suppose.

Thanks again all of you, Timbre it is then. lol exciting isn't it, getting your first guitar ;o.

Oh yes it is. And timbre stock pickups are more than good enough, wait until u've found exactly wat kinda tone u like, then go change. And btw, the 'extra' pickup u mentioned has absolutely nothing to do with price. If not, a EBMM SUB1 wld cost less than the timbre(the SUB1 used to retail at 1k++, now discontinued).

i love my pacifica 112. choosing the correct tone and pick-ups on the controls can create quite a variety of tone. haven't had any problems with the hardware.. have gotten very comfortable with it.
