Alright,so I've been trying to learn this song by MUSE since yesterday and I've only started memorising the first, second verses and the pre-chorus roughly.
However,I'm kinda' stuck when I'm trying to get the chorus right.
Here's the tabs, and a video that teaches how to play the song. However,I can't seem to follow the mutes that happen about halfway into the chorus. The tabs that say '12-x-10' etc.
I think I got the wrong concept of trying to mute strings,in fact,I probably don't even have an idea.:???:
So,can someone explain to me how I should go about muting the D string during this part of the chorus?Really got me frustrated about it.

Btw,since we're at it,anyone wanna verify the authenticity of TIRO's tabs?Whether they're accurate and what not.

i really hate tabs which do that. basically you're playing the same note an octave apart in a general power chord shape.

you could(i think the tabs suppose that you should, actually) mute the D string with your index finger that's fretting the 10 on the A string, by inclining it slightly so that it's touching the D string but not enough to fret it.

but if it's slow enough that I can I usually prefer to use my middle finger to fingerpick the G string while using my pick to hit the A string, leaving the D string untouched.

Lol...Sorry didn't understand what you were trying to explain.Maybe someone could link a video which explains fully,in detail how to do such a muting?I couldn't find any finger muting on YouTube...They keep telling you to palm mute...But that's not what I'm looking for,I suppose.

What he's trying to say is from your power chord shape remove the finger fretting the D string and tilt you index finger (which is fretting the A) towards the fretboard until its in contact with the D string (while still fretting the A).

Your trying to stop the D string from sounding so you just need to stop it from vibrating.

Wow...Thanks for the detailed explanation.I now understand what you mean and I'll try it out tomorrow.
However,I've just realized that tabs,in fact most, for this song are wrong...
I wonder if there are anyone who can ear-tab out the tabs for Muse's TIRO.This guy seems to have it covered nicely, but just by looking at the video I can't figure out anything(newbie at guitar...haven't really trained my ear).

Ah God...now I'm stuck with my fingering.I can't seem to play the chorus(now it's not a case of incorrect tabs) from my link above. Can anyone tell me how I should go about fretting the parts where it's 8-8-10-9,8-8-10-10...etc.
The best part was the 6-5-7-7-5.I had completely no idea where to put my fingers!

i'm not very good at explaining in words, i know heh.

those are barre chords. use the index finger to hold down the entire line of 5, then your ring and pinky for 7, and middle finger for the 6 at the B string. a bit hard at first yes.

Lol I wish someone could take a picture of themselves fretting the chorus.Wikipedia doesn't seem to offer similar barre chords to what Matt Bellamy is playing in TIRO.
:(
