Chingay Parade, where the kaleidoscope of multi-cultural colours promise to be dazzle; where the heartbeat of cosmopolitan city of Singapore belies.
The parade has evolved from its humble origins as a parade featuring Chinese Cultural items from big headed dolls, prancing dragons and lions to what it is today – a cultural extravaganza of cultures from Singapore and that of around the world. Each year, the parade grows larger and grander in scale, reaching out to 200,000 spectators on the 2 parade days and millions of TV viewers from 22 countries
In Chingay 2012, we hope to offer the audience multi-sensory experience. The huge scale parade next year will be extraordinary, combining artistic theatrical feel and the moving parade format. All the 8, 000 volunteer performers will perform on the water with lights, sound and special effects to offer audience a show that no one has seen before. We will be celebrating our 40th anniversary Chingay Parade next year, an extraordinary parade, touching hearts and rich in meaning.
Audiences coming to the parade are in for a real visual feast! Expect a spectacular opening with a fiery grand segment featuring a majestic dragon float, a glistening pair of flying dragon and phoenix from Xi’an, China, soaring against the darkened sky, as well as 800-youths strong warrior dragon dance put up by the PA Youth Movement. All these will add to the festive atmosphere of the opening and promise to open the parade with a roaring start! We hope to see you in Chingay Parade 2012!
