Hey all,

I'm new here and just wondering if anyone's selling M13 at a good price.

Can anyone tell me whether getting the POD HD Series or M13/M9 is better?

POD HD if you want an all-in-one solution (particularly the amp modeling and built in expression pedal, also USB out for recording).

M13/M9 if you wish to mix and match with other pedals to form your own pedalboard. Quite common to see people with M13 + one or two drive/distortion stompboxes and an exp pedal, or M9 with a bunch of other pedals.

The thing is, I don't really know about amp modelling that's why it doesn't seem so appealing to me.
I've been using a VOX ToneLab SE for quite some time and it's pretty hard to use considering the many layers you gotta set.

I've got a lot of comments and opinions telling me I shouldn't get a Multi-EFX but get individual stompboxes but since I don't know what kind of sound I want yet, it's better to get a 'Multi-EFX' stompbox system like the M13 or M9.

Well, you don't really have to understand the theory or engineering behind amp modeling. It's just another tool to achieve your desired tone... think of the amp model as a super EQ pedal that has the final say in your sound before it hits the speakers?

Maybe you could go to CityMusic and have them demo both series to you, so you can get a better idea before you buy. Though they're based on the same technology, there're some fundamental differences in the usage style between PODs and the M-series. The M9 suits me because I just want fine control over a small number of virtual stompboxes at one time. The PODs would be better at changing quickly between entire patches / presets.

Also worth considering is the fact that the M13 is quite big, and the POD HD 500 is huge. The M9 could fit in the front pouch of a good guitar bag.

Oh, interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

So I'll have them demo it to me? Then I don't have to do it myself right? Nice. Thanks for all your help!
One more question, if I were to get an M13, should I get it new at $710 or second-hand, 2 years, at $550?

why get new if second hand is in good condition and usable? i dont see the point of owning a first hand item when the value will depreciate the moment you buy it?
