WTB Electronic Drum Set

Hi, I'm looking for an electronic drum set for my 10-yr old son who's just started to play. And he's showing great enthusiasm.

His lessons are only once a week, so I need to get a permanent set for him to practice on a regular basis.

Hey there, if you don't mind acoustic, you should be for the Pearl Rhythm Traveler. It's very portable, comes with hardware and cymbals and its within your budget. The included cymbals are crap though, you can get a Meinl MCS set for $250+ or HCS set for $150+. I wouldn't recommend getting a DTXplorer though, it doesn't give realistic hi-hat feel.If you want an electronic kit try to get one that has a real hi hat pad mounted on a hi hat stand, but those normally costs at least 2k. Oh and the Pearl Rhythm traveler comes with mesh pads for silent practice. Or you can buy mutes so that don't have to keep changing skin and tuning each time you switch between mesh head and real head. Hope it helps!
