Hi everyone

I have already contacted some of you as I want to buy an electronic drum set. I am a beginner so dont necessary need all advanced versions but still want a good quality stuff. Brand, am flexible, though it seems Yamaha DX3-4 seems to have preference while DX2 seems too plastic. However, I do not have a definitive view on this, and because I am a beginner, it should be ok. Other brands am flexible too.

Reason of my post is that it is unclear from your post what exactly sometimes is included especially if you guys add on some accessories or new kits. For example as well, I am struggling to understand for example why DX-4 is sold used here at $1500-1800 while it is on Amazon.com new for $1000 USD. I guess this is because adds on have been bought, but I need to know exactly what i am buying (make sense no ?)

Am serious and want to buy to practice during CNY so sms me at 9111 6849 and answer me personally with following :
- Exact kit composition you sell
- what was provided with the set
- what is the add on
- Total price and if you remember the price of the original set, this is easier.
- Preference if you still have original receipt , boxes, manuals. If you dont, just be clear as well.
- picture of the actual set

Fast transaction can be done on the spot, i come to your place, test it to see if it works, pay cash, and everyone is happy. As a seller, you want a good deal, as a buyer I want a good product.

Serious offer for serious people, let me know.

Thanks

Greg

PS : SMS me first with details or send me email as I am almost in meeting and wont be able to pick up your call. Thanks

Hello Greg,
firstly, welcome to the drumming community ;)
I just wanna share with you some of my knowledge which may help you clarify your doubts regarding edrums (electronic drums)

I believe the DX2, DX3, DX4 you're referring to is actually Yamaha DTXpress 2 - 4.

I'm not sure what you mean by plastic but I'm pretty sure the drum pads on all the series are similar, if not the same.

DTXpress 4 Special Set (the one that comes with a hi-hat pad that is mountable on a real hi-hat stand) used to be sold near to $3000 without Yamaha sale. And since Singapore do not have that many Yamaha dealers, prices tend to stay up, moreover, all these equipments are imported since there's no edrum manufacturer here in Singapore (not that I know of). That explains why many people priced their DTXpress 4 at about $1500 - $1800

On Amazon or anywhere, it's probably up to that particular dealer to sell the set at a lower price, but if you factor in the currency conversion and shipping fees, you'd probably be looking at around the same price of a secondhand kit here. Just that you'll be getting a new set (but that's not a guarantee because you are not there to see the set yourself, so you just got to trust the seller).

Hope this will shed some light for you. And I wish you all the best in finding your new E - Drums :)

Hi

thanks for your answer. Indeed i was referring to DTX-2-3-4. From what i read, the DTX-4 came actually in 2 versions and it seems the one you are referring is the more advanced one.

Did not know Yamaha situation in Singapore, that might explain the price value and perception. Did not know the original price was around $3000.

However, as Yamaha introduced new 500 series, i guess price of DTX2-4 would drop, maybe a question of time as well.

Anyway, thanks for the answer, am now looking forward to finding a good deal.DTX2 or 4

Hello Greg, I think factoring all the charges from shipping and conversion rate, you'll probably be looking at ard $2.5k SGD for a new set on Amazon, but Yamaha sells it here at ard $2500 without speakers. Which means you can only practice with headphones or earphones. Inclusive of speaker which costs a 4 to 500 bucks at Yamaha factors to a total of $3000 or more. On sale they sell it cheaper. But sale is usually at the year end. The new series introduced new pads, otherwise. DTXpress 2-4 have the exact same pads, except for the DTXpress IV Special set, it has a larger snare but of the same material. The good thing about the special set is that it has 4 cymbals and the hi-hat is more realistic looking as compared to the non-special version.
I'd suggest you to check this forum everyday for updates, people usually would price their e drums relatively high, ard $2000 or so. So wait for a good deal and don't jump into a high price too quick! If possible get the DTXpress IV, because DTXpress II was released quite some time ago. Hope it helps!
Welcome t drumming! :)

That is a great help thanks. ! I guess my wishes to buy below $1k was totally unrealistic lol...:) definitively would go for DTX-IV special edition with the new hi-hat and four symbals.

One more questions if u dont mind. It seems most sellers dont keep their original receipt. Is it common practice ? Am asking because for electronic stuff like camera , iphone, if u dont have receipt normally it is impossible to sell

Yeah. I think so, because the whole box that it came with is huge, people would throw the box away along w the receipt. OR because most people don't have the intention of re-selling it. So after the warranty, they probably would throw the receipt away. I know I did. I threw it away on the first day LOL. phones and camera, its small, the box is easy and convenient to keep. :)

I found dtx4 has numerous version 1.TP 100 snare and RHH 135
2.TP 100 with RHH 130 3.TP 65S with TP 65 as a hi hat 4 . Any of the combination above.but here we cannot choose

The one with TP65 as hi hat is the Standard version, the one with RHH 130 is the first version of the DTXpress IV Special, the one with RHH 135 is the second version, aptly called DTXpress IV Special V2. I don't think there's any other combination though.

Yeah, it's like the upgraded version. Version 2 is better. That's why they don't give you a choice. Just give you the latest ones. But if u buy 2nd hand, there are people who sell the version 1 type.

The difference is only in the cymbals, and a slight difference in patch names in the module. Version 2 has the newer hats which move up and down like a real hat, but its known for having problems and IMO it swings too much, almost like a splash cymbal. The cymbals have a new design and are all triple zoned (in version 1, one of the 13inch cymbal pads are single zone). I prefer the version 1 to be honest, the splash-like hi hat is a huge turn-off. Plus I don't need my primary crash to have more than 1 zone anyway.

Hahaha it's all personal preference i guess. I like the new hi-hats more. I've had both before. I prefer the one I'm having now(the new one). A more realistic feeling (for me). :)

Hi guys

my offer to buy a good electronic drum is still valid, but PLEASE respect your buyer....:=) Had a bad experience yesterday driving all the way to Bedok to test a drum set that was not in mint conditions, some faulty connectors and not sure exactly about the overall quality.

Just be honest with us on quality, test it before you sell it and everyone will be happy.

Am still willing to deal fast over week end if good offer . DTX-IV is ok if set is excellent quality and justifies the price. DTX-III should be way cheaper and other brands am opened. Budget between $600-$1500 based on quality and product, thanks for the offer of the Roland kit at 2.5k but this is way above my budget.

SMS me tks

Hi guys

Am closing this thread. Just bought a NEW Yamaha DTX-520, price is actually $1500 for your information in Singapore from Yamaha dealer. So i guess seller of DTX-IV might want to revise their pricing...:)

Anyway, none of my business actually.

Happy new year !

Erm, the DTXpress IV special is actually better and more expensive as the cymbal pads are better, the hi hat is way better, and the rack is better too. The only thing the DTX520 beats the DTXpress IV special is the snare pad which, honestly, isn't that much of a biggie since you said "I am a beginner so dont necessary need all advanced versions". As long as you practice frequently on an acoustic set to maintain your chops, you'll be fine with either pads.

I trust you on this, my knowledge is indeed limited. However, from a market value point of view and perspective, I would not buy a DTX-IV $1500 when the DTX-V is $1000 new and the DTX-520 is $1500. Even if IV is better than V, I would expect price drop. But if people are happy to pay that price for second hand, this is indeed their choice. On top of that quality sometimes is not mint so...:=) anyway, thanks for the update, I let you know what I think on the 520 when delivered. Cheers
