working with wood at home

hi to all,i need some input on working with wood at home. i live in a hdb flat and i cant seem to think of a suitable place for me sand down my guitar without causing too much dust to build up, be it my own bedroom or the living room or the balcony, since its quite airy at home and the dust is sure to spread out to the rest of the house. any suggestions to places where i can do the sanding and minimize dusting up the whole place?

If you're going to sand down your guitar. You may wanna buy a sander instead. Normally, a sander has a 'dust trapper' where most of the dust goes to. But some dust still will come out lah. I sand down my guitar in my kitchen when no one's at home. When my wife came back, she didn't even know that I sand it in there. Of course, I have to clean some of those escapees...hehehehe!!

Enjoy the work!!

use a vacuum cleaner.

When I do minor routing + sanding, I'll have my vacuum cleaner sucking up whatever dust is being generated. It works but it'll clog up the bag really fast if you're routing with a high speed dremel or if there are a lot of fine dust.

Are there any community workshop in Singapore? In some other cities I've lived in have had community workshops where you pay a monthly fee for access to a workshop and tools (similar to a gym membership). Would be a great for flat dwelling diy types.

that gives me an idea, i might be able to go down and use the dnt workshop in my secondary school. what an idea eh? working with "wood" in school the way roninriot sees it :P

i use a wet a semi wet towel to trap the dust ...
or you can just get a big box and put the body on it and sand away ...

or ...do it in the loo ..haha ...

that would be absolutely wonderful! BUT.... who are the people actually interested in DIY in Singapore to spend money to use such a facility.

Plus, I'm not sure if the community workshop would want noobs waiting for their fingers, hands or even hair(for those emo long fringe ones) to be ripped off with power tools. Insurance and stuff like that. I dunno man but I know it'd be great to have access to one.
