will maple hoops affect the sound of a metal snare?

The thing tat it will do is to enhance the explosiveness of the projection esp when rimshotting, not really influencing much on the actual sound though, cos after all, when hit, its the metal shell tat is resonating and comes into contact wif the moving air inside, not the hoops.

I saw Gibraltar Maple-ply wood hoops at Yamaha Music Plaza @ Plaza Singapura yesterday.

S$80 each.

Only 14"s there, but the staff said what's not in stock can be ordered in.

The expensive ones are the Yamaha 'vintage' hoops, those are at least $100+ each.

The Gibraltar ones are the cheapest off-the-shelf option available now I believe.

Ah.. that's what you think. It might be hard to believe, but the gibraltar wood hoops are actually cheaper here.
