wolf tone. HELP.

Hey help. My guitar is a SSS config strat style. When i select the neck position pickup or combine the neck pickup + middle there is this wuufing sound in clean channel. Lowering the gain doesnt help. I think its slightly overdriven or something. I tried making the neck pickup height the lowest but has totally no effect in removing the wolf tone. Can hear very clearly when i roll the tone to zero. Does this mean my pickups have a problem? Must replace? The wolfing only happens to the E, A and D strings. The rest are okay. Using 0.009 inches for the highest E string. Extra light gauge in other words.

Im plugged into a roland microcube, happens for both JC Clean and Black Panel amp simulations.

Btw if i can't fix this problem i might invest in a epiphone les paul special II as a cheap replacement for clean stuff. Any idea how does the clean sound on that guitar? Got twang? I'm more into blues and jazz guitar playing, desire thicker mellow tones with a little bit of twang flexibility...

I dont really understand what 'wolf' tone is, Im presuming its just the classic hum you get outta the single coil pickups. If you can post a soundclip, it will be great.

Here are some quick checks you can do:

1) Make sure your cables etc are decent quality

2) Is your amp grounded? 2 pin ? or 3 pin?

3) After trying out 1 and 2, try moving away from the amplifier and see if the sound persists?

4) Unlikely, but take your cell phone or other electronic gadgets out of your pocket while playing :lol:

5) If it still persists, you can get it checked at a guitar store, but its the strat hum under 90% probability.. solutions for that would be to get hum cancelling pickups, or to invest in a noise supressor pedal

Played in this order. All neck position. EAD, tone at 10. EADGBE, Tone at 0. EAD. GBE. Tone rolled up to 10 , fingerstyle lick. Tone down to zero, same stuff.

Can hear the disgusting buzzing sound? ARGH. Mic'd amp recorded into cubase sx, JC Clean on the micro cube, gain at 12 o' clock, volume 10 o' clock, tone 2 o'clock, effects all off. Running on adapter. I recorded the thing soft and normalized it so you can be sure that the buzz is not due to clipping during recording.

Oh yea and there is buzzing on the B. Sorry bout that. HAHA. I bought this guitar for 150 dollars only at Esden Trading Sim Lim.

Allright, that confirms it. Its not the strat hum. Its just either of these:
Possible problems:

1) Improper wiring/ Bad soldering of pickups
2) Cheap tone pots/vol pots? Very possible.
3) Input jack dusty? I had a similar prolblem when I thought it was the pickups, it worked out to the input jacks accumulating loads of dirt.

I noticed that the buzz occurs only when there is dissonance. ie, double stops and so on. Try fixing the 3 ones listed above, all can be DIY.

If it still persists, just change the pickups lah.. but I doubt if its worth it on a 150 $ guitar. Good luck.

Haha thanks loads will try these fixes. Btw any budget range guitars like squier or epiphone that are well built and can pull of a decent clean tone? LOLx im a very budget fella. Just sound clean without the wolfing sound will do liao. Budget <$300.

why not save more, switch out the electronics and pups?
