Wireless Keyboard Solution

Hi guys,

I'm intending to do a wireless setup for my keyboard rig so that i can also stand in front with my guitarists n vocalists during the gig. do you guys know any wireless solutions? The only one i know is M-Audio's MidAir wireless system, with Novation's Remote SL37 because the remote SL37 can be powered by batteries.

Please post your views and if you know any other alternatives.

There is another product from CME called WIDI.

I'm not sure if the CME dealers are still around in Singapore. It is available for order online though.

Wireless midi may be the least of your problems, since midi sound modules or keyboards usually stay with your keyboard and doesn't cause much obstruction to other band members. I for one would like my midi modules and devices to be next to me on performances instead of being accessed via wireless some 10m away. And when they are next to me, I use the shortest possible midi cables. Your main problems will be the audio cables, which you can overcome by using wireless audio solutions.

Wireless midi will be useful if you are going to walk around the stage using a midi controller like the Roland AX-7. Also useful for any other type of controllers (eg wind controllers) which will free you up to move around the stage.

im actually playing with softsynths on Ableton, thats why im more concern with midi.

Anyone know where is the nearest place that i can get hold of roland ax-7 ?

ax-7 has been discontinued. Nearest place would be ebay or soft I guess (rather high price).

If you are using Remote SL37, midi cables is the last of your concern. There's no need to go wireless midi. Especially if you are going to use softsynths. You would want your notebook to be next to you, not 10m away. That's because you want visual confirmation on your notebook when you have changed patches or programs or whatever parameters you have changed. You don't want to change a patch live only to realise that it hasn't changed. Also, in an event of PC crash, you want to reboot your notebook quickly. You don't want to run 10m to do something with your notebook.

So... if you notebook is going to be next to you, you really don't need wireless midi.

yeah... keyboardists are pretty much resigned to a permanent spot somewhere at the back of the stage with the drummer. or else, just simply ask for your keyboards to be right at the front of the stage all the time so u'll forever be in front, wireless or not.

nonetheless, if you must, i'd say m-audio midair is a good fuss-free option with the built-in transmitter.
