i've got a problem with an electrical noise when i record. i've tried power conditioners, line ac filters and even switching off all other electrical decives in my house (fridge, fluro lights) but still the hum persists.

even switching amps or monitor speaker don't seem to work. :(

at my wits end.

btw: all my electrical sockets have been changed to the 3-pin grounded type.

i've uploaded a sample of the hum which i recorded.

if anyone can help me or knows someone who can help solve my problem i'd be glad to pay them for their service of course.

thanks for reading.

would you like to give details of your setup? think that would help.

using ac adaptors etc as well?

my setup is as follows

signal path: guitar-efx-vox amp-mixer-soundcard

i've more or less isolated the noise to from the electrical plugs, as the noise can be heard even when my guitar/ monitor amps are switched on with mothing plugged in!

the sound i recorded was just the mixer (which was turned down) into the soundcard inputs.

a similar sound is heard when i turn on my guitar amp, (again nothing is plugged in)

BTW: i think you need to turn up your volume a bit. the hum is even visible in an audio editing program, but low in volume.

nope i still can't hear nuts from ur sample. it doesn't register anything on my Windows Media Player. Thou it might be i don't have the particular mp3 codec... well nvm.

in any case if u say, the hum is definitely not from ur guitar. Maybe you could try plugging the amp at different places in your house?

The other aspect could be that your amps are not properly shielded... for which i guess u'll have to look for an amp expert on the issue.

If your hum amplifies when plugging in the guitar, your guitar should be shielded as well. (though if you're using hum-cancelling pickup positions/humbuckers that shouldn't be much of an issue.)

yup i think you may have something on the shielding issue.

i've narrowed it down to either a shielding issue or bad wiring of my condo. (eg improper grounding)

but since the noise can be recorded, i'm having my doubts as to if its a shielding issue.

it's strange that you can't hear the noise when you play the file.

it's quite loud on my setup.

the guitar amp has hum even at clean/low volume with nothing plugged in! argh!

humpty

Could it be from the fan system of the computer?

I listened to it there's sorta a phasey thing to it. What kind of amp are u using?

It seems to me that maybe your amp needs a bit of fixing up.

But I read your set up is guit-efx-vox-amp-mixer-soundcard?

The vox is linked to your efx? Interesting setup to me.

Hope it helps

heheh thx for the reply, oh BTW the vox IS the amp.

i've borrowed my pal's M-Audio firewire 410 and still the problem persists.

i'm beginning to think that its due to some magnetic interference cause the sound can be heard on my bloody telephone when you keep quiet...

yikes

haunted house. and me the poor sound engineer who has to make a living off this...

i'm holding off all further projects till i get this thing fixed... if anyone again knows of anyone who is willing to come down to come check my setup i can make it worth their while. :)

if not its yellow pages for me.
