Why most local bands play rock?

I think its the genre that we are most exposed to. Therefore many ppl play it. If jazz was the mainstream genre then im sure everyone wud play jazz too!

Well, i think that rock is more of attitude and expression. Something that 'stick it to the man', like how Jack Black said in the movie School of Rock. Rock, to me, is really the best way to express oneself, direct and not too offensive at the same time.

cos when the words "start a band" are mentioned, they always associate 'em with rock music. Look what you've done, MTV..

Every genre has their own elite. We can't compare across genres too. However, what I can say is that mainstream rock music is a lot easier on the minds of listeners.

If you're talking about say rock players like say Vai, Petrucci, Sheehan, etc., shiok is one thing, but understand what the hell they're playing is another thing.

Jazz music is quite hard on the minds of listeners. It's not that easy to accept. take a listen to the really old stuff, many of us would switch it off after 2mins.

I'm 18 and i'm a learning jazz pianist. I like to play dance, fusion, rock and pop but sometimes, when looking to relax and really enjoy the funs of head bobbing, i guess rock's the best man.

Well, I guess indie-rock is the most promising genre. The

i am 15 and i play the guitar. I actually really dig jazz but no good teacher la...so i play rock with my friends coz they arent good enough to play jazz nor are thyey interested =(

well jazz is hard to learn.. and to learn jazz is like learning quantum physics.. And there is even a jazz studies major in lasalle.. see you can even get a degree in jazz for god sakes..
So many musicians would love to play jazz but they just dont have the time or money to learn how to play or study real jazz. So this is why jazz isnt popular amongst the youths.

Well we like rock because if we play rock and party hard we can get all the pussies we want
