Like most hobbies... People sometimes get distracted by other hobbies, life priorities or situations. For me it was a combination of a few things. I stopped playing in 99 after I got married... Sure I took it out once in a while but not as often as I'd liked. I guess at that point of time my priorities changed.
I truly stopped playing in 2001 when I sustained serious injuries to my right arm. 2 operations and hundreds of hours of physiotherapy hasn't improved my condition... I've 20% of sensation left with total loss of feelings in certain parts of my right hand and arm. There's significant muscle wasting and over the years I've taught myself to be a left hander. Life goes on... Since I've lost my "key-pinch" strength there's no way I could hold on to a pick properly. The missus solved this for me though. I'd never be 100% again but hey it's not like I'm trying to embark on a new musical career. I'm happy enough playing some simple tunes and the missus likes to see me keep myself busy.
