Hi fellow Softeans,

I am a novice to biasing a tube amp. I found out that Weber has this Bias Rite equipment that solve the mystery. Howver it is such a blur. Anyone who can help? Or come over to help me with biasing at a fee. THanks

If your amp sounds ok, then don't need to bias.

The nonsense on the web that you need to bias your amp to get a warmer or fuller sound applies only to a small number of cases only. If your amp sounds funny or problematic, it's normally caused by other things broken down. Not as simple as readjust bias.

A lot of tube amps are fixed biased.

You don't need to understand the technicality of the amp circuitry unless you have training in this field or actively servicing or building amps yourself.

It's like if you are sick, the wonders of the internet information is at your hand. But what info is right or wrong, you don't know. So still the best choice is to visit a doctor. But some info is always helpful for us to make decisions.

If you are having problems, just list it out here. I'll help if I can, cause I am actively repair amps, both transistors and tube ones.

(heehee....I used to be repairing computer monitor, always got people like act smart and say " my monitor spoilt, I think the bulb inside blow, not serious one", and I go "huh.....since when a monitor function like a bulb")

bias

I am trying to learn so that i can bias my Fender Twin Reverb and Savage Macht 6. The concern here is the Macht 6 that uses 6V6. I can choose to ignore about biasing but i know havin an amp/ tube bias can help to prolong tube life without causing it to overheat. Damn, maybe i should give up and just plug the damn new tubes in....

"The Tube Amp book" by Dan Torres is the unofficial bible of how to build and maintain amps I believe. My brother in law has a copy (he builds his own Hifi stereo tube amps) and I had a look through it - it's gibberish to me as a person who doesn't know the difference between voltage and current, but looks like it's pretty definitive.

Perhaps you have to search the internet for biasing info for these amps. I manage to get the schematics and bias info for my marshall, I'm comfortable with electrical stuff, so it not too difficult for me.

But be warn that the capacitor has high voltage that can kill. If you are unsure, please seek pro help like mikemann.

Having to bias them properly is a pain in the ass, which is why I was relunctant to get a tube amp at first. Even the manufacturer may not even do it properly.

Some cathode biased (AC15/30) or class A (thd uni valve) do not need biasing, I'm sure your Fender twin is not one of them.
