which multi-fx to get?

hello, i am a boy looking towards getting a 2nd hand multi effects processor, but the problem is i don't know which to choose. someone posted a similar thread but he already had a few narrowed down choices of what he wanted in mind, while i have totally no clue to which i am looking for. however what i have is that i know what i expect of the processor.

firstly, i am looking for something which has a great variety of effects, with quantity over quality. this is because i play more music which involves effects ranging from modulation to ambient sounds over plain metal and speed stuff. thus, i am looking for different effects for me to play around with instead of a simple godlike distortion pedal.
secondly, i don't intend to be recording anything thus any recording function is not really applicable here. maybe in the future la.
thirdly, the ease of use doesn't have to be easy (but not too hard as well la), as i intend to spend time learning how to use it properly. thus, i would rather something which requires a lot of time figuring out and gives a lot at the end over something which is easy to use and requires little comprehension but only gives very little (in terms of capabilities).
fourthly, i don't know if multi-fx generally allow simultaneous switching/using of different effects, for eg. i am playing this kind of distortion with this kind of delay, but can i keep to this kind of distortion while switching to a different kind of delay? but if it can, yeah that's what i'm looking for.
lastly, my price range is below 400 ( for 2nd hand, and a little more than 400 doesn't matter). just in case you need to know more, i play stuff like incubus, u2, mr. big, oasis, maroon 5 and eschew stuff like, i don't know, your typical speed metal or faster kind of rock? yup.

i've heard a lot about the gt-8, and i think it may be sufficient for me, but just intended to find out more about other choices here. hopefully i could learn about the pros and cons of the different choices from the experience of everyone else here. lastly, i thanks all of you who bothered reading this whole chunk of shit. hope it was specific enough and not too hard to understand - i am lengthy yet poor with words haha.

cheers, Marcus.

lol. multifx thread again. i'll step in to help.
firstly what you mean changing of effects? from distortion to delay? i believe most multi-fx has a separate pedal to step on for distrotion/modulation/delay and of course a wah/volume pedal.
so definitely you can just off your distortion and step on a delay to turn it on.

imo a gt-8 is great. if you no need for all the stuff ME-50 is equally great. and talking about all the recording and patching i believe i've posted in a thread. :D
someone mentioned that a gt-8 is better for amps than a podx3live, podx3live sounds better with pa systems. i'm not too sure but thats what i read. but since you're really not into recording a gt-8 might be okay.

but since you mentioned quantity over quality than maybe you could go for the podx3live. it has more preamps and effects if i recall correctly.
imo, i still prefer boss's effects over pod's. but like i said pod has a greater variety.

at the end of the day it still is your decision. :D
but i feel that, if you get low quality effects you won't like them. having no effects you like makes all the quantity redundant agreed? i think quality still outshines quantity cos the difference in quantity ain't that much.

hope this helps ya bro.

wah...u have the same music taste as me bro...especially Mr. Big and Oasis...I feel effects are all abt personal preference....To me, I prefer Line 6 to BOSS or Korg....Currently using my POD XT live for all my Jamming, Gig and recording my ep....The sound is pretty good overall tho I believe single analog pedals will be better...

I love POD XT due the fact that I can adjust the settings by seeing to my computer screen(editing software)...which is very convenient when I need to do some detailed adjustment.

Have you tried the Vox Tonelab LE?

Citymusic has it on sale right now, $350? or thereabouts.

I listened to the clip on youtube, very nice stuff for the $.

lightice & velvetrevolver: haha the vox tonelab LE only contains vox preamps and effects right? as in, you won't be able to find a crybaby wah on it or a ds-1 dist in it right, but only the vox big ben, and their own line of effects? correct me if i'm wrong on this :)

reez_rock: yeah bro, same tastes! haha, i don't require recording functions and yes i also agree analog effects are the best, but its cash constrain which made me want to go multi. and i guess i could bang on what you said for personal preference to make my choice haha, cheers!

funktastic: what i meant about the switching part is like, switching from Delay 1 to Delay 2 while maintaining the same distortion. is it possible? or switching from Delay to Chorus while keeping the same distortion again. "having no effects you like makes all the quantity redundant agreed?" yes i agree on that! which makes me think i could go for something of quality over something of just a little more quantity, haha and i play through amps (or would rather, as compared to PA systems). btw, what's the diff btw the ME-50 and the gt-8?

thanks all of you guys for your help! more help would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

from delay 1 to delay 2 you gotta bend down and adjust all the knobs.
chorus is part of modulation and there're be another switch.
if you don't get what i mean, you can search for a pic of a boss me-50 online.
you'll see there're 3 footswitch. first is for distortions, second for modulation and third for delays.
if you wanna change within a distortion you gotta adjust the knobs, its impossible with the footswitch.
therefore its not possible to change from delay1 to delay2 with a step of a footswitch, but its possible to off your delay and turn on your modulation(chorus). you just gotta step off/on on either switch.

difference with a me-50 and gt-8, you can check the web for full specs.
but from what i know, gt-8 has much more stuff which might not be everything you need.
this includes preamps, effects, new features like the dynamic switching thingy, patching of tones and i don't know. but if you wan simplicity a me-50 is e way to to. gt-8 is for more advanced stuff? but i do the the gt-8 is hard to master.
again, if you decide to get a gt-8 i'll give you a link to download a 96page guide if you want to. its by gt-8 users who spend most of their time on their gt-8 and not on their geetars. lol!

haha the tonelab really seems popular aye! haha, alright thanks funktastic, as well as everyone else here. it all seems like its between boss and vox. nothing from zoom, line6, etc?

hmm.. im using Zoom gfx5 last time. and got my gfx1.. seems that the gfx5 is quite good except that its so big and bulky for me. Ah im living happily with my gfx1 in my pedalboard. seems that the gfx1 is great but it does not have the vibe. Which i wanted. But the gfx1 have lot of varieties in distoritons yea!

Hmm.. about pod im really not shure but one thing good is that you can use somekind of a computer programme to get the tone you want.

good luck in the multieffects way!
