Which are the more decent solid state 65w amps?

I'm thinking of getting an amp that's gig-worthy, but affordable...i've shortlisted the following candidates...i'm willing to spend $400 tops...

laney hcm65r
peavey studio 112
crate gx80
kustom 65watts

i have yet to try out these amps together, but i've played them all before, just that i can't really remember what they sound like, although i do remember being quite partial to the laney and kustom amps. could you guys tell me where i can go to find these amps? i'm hoping to buy a new one. thanks a lot!

i guess since i only have $400 this probably isn't an option...but do you think i can buy a decent tube amp with that amount? maybe 2nd hand? i guess i'm looking for a decent sounding and somewhat durable amp and everything i've read tells me that solid state ones are more reliable. but i've played tube amps before (laney vc30, crate bluestube[i think that's what it's called]) with my rig and i liked what i heard. what should i do?

Go to swee lee to audition the laney and the peavey..
as for the kustom u can go Esden Sim Lim Square.
The crate im not sure...sorry abt that..

Btw what kinda music that you play?
For the money i go for the bandit , laney then the kustom..

U mention that u got a rig, in that case i hope that these amps had a decent FX send, return

Im looking for an amp myself, but dont have a time to go hunting...
You might like to check Line6 stuff as well. They can be found at City Music..
Gd luck!

Why don't you, instead of buying an amp, invest in a tech 21 sansamp tri a c amp modulation unit? It's what some softies here recommend. Carry it around to gigs, plug guitar into it and straight to PA. Good tone w/o having to lugg a large amp around :)

even i am looking for an amp....could people please elaborate and share your knowledge.....

i also have arnd 550$ to 600$ to spend.....

hey yo bluepowder since u haf more than 500 u could try de trace elliot tramp twin which is being sold on luthers classifieds. its a 100 watt tube amp. super warm n fantastic sounding. i just tried one out recently. n it isnt very large n bulky. :D

mmm...i guess getting the amp modulation unit would be a good idea for most people, but i don't think it's the best option for me.

i play indie stuff mostly, influenced by bands like sunny day real estate, sonic youth etc etc...i foresee myself playing at diy gigs(where ill get the chance to gig with my amp, the one i'm going to buy i mean), or smaller gigs...and i'm not sure how good an idea it is to play my guitar through one of those portable pa systems. if amps are provided at the gig i'm happy to play through them but the thing is i actually intend to station this amp at the private jam room i'm using currently, because it only has one reasonably loud amp, a yamaha dg60, the other amp is a marshall mg15cdr....so ill be using my amp not just for gigs, but for jamming as well...

i really don't need a lot, just an amp which works well with my rig and can produce fairly nice clean sounds. er...my rig...it's quite modest...i've got an mxr dist+, a boss dd3, a dod flanger, and a boss tu-2, i play a yamaha pac604w, it's all stock but i love it the way it is.

anyway thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

even i want the amp for private jamming in room
so something like 30 or 50w wouild be good...mainly i want a good sound.....i got something similar setup too.....thought i would buy a good distortion and get a small ibanez amp but then i thought get a good amp and use amp distortion....whatsay

thats our room you're talking about. get the peavey. sansamp through the PA didnt sound good, its been done. no you dont know me. probably my guitar, but not me.

You should look at getting one of the spider series.

Honestly, if I were you, i'd be looking at the luther classifieds for second hand amps. I mean, i believe i've seen some avt50's going for around that price, and imo that's a good deal. Alternatively, save up a little more, and get a nice lil 15watt tube amp.

Roland Cube 60.

Super good clean sound and loud. If you have pedals/multi effects, this is the amp that you should consider.
