Which amp should I buy?

Hi everyone, I'm new to electric guitars. Got an Ibanez JEM copy and a Digitech bad monkey overdrive pedal from my cousin about month ago and don't know which amp to get since the one he gave me gone case already. More inclined towards the classic rock/ hard rock/ metal genre. Which practice amp would be the best one to get for a budget of around $120?

maybe you can try marshall mg series.. but if you gonna depend alot on effects try smarvo, high wattage at affordable prices. cheers mate.

Hmmm......u cld also try sound drive amps, available at www.standardvalue.com.sg. It is recommended u go down 2 the shop(s) to try out the amps b4 buying. Marshall MG series i wldn't recommend bcos of bad personal experience. But do go try it out all the same. If u can up ur budget a little, the Vox Pathfinder 15R frm Citymusic is one of the best small practice amps around. Cheerz!

with regards to the CUBE amps- my take is to avoid the 15W version not because it's dysfunctional but tone-wise, it could have been better.

do check out the 30W version or even the microCUBE.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, I think I'll get a 15W amp. Another question: What is the difference between the Pathfinder 15R and MG15CDR? In terms of sound quality, features etc.

buy the most expensive amp that you can afford that you can play the loudest at home. Dont buy an amp that you can only set the volume to 2 or 3 at home.

Hmmm..............i dun agree with impromptu. I believe that an amp that sounds gd at vol 2-3 is better than an amp that u can crank up to vol 10 but u get crappy sound. In terms of sound, MG15CDR has dist..........but it's lousy. The Vox has no in-built dist but yes it takes to pedals and multi-efx better. It has a better speaker too..........more articulate than the MG15CDR's. I'd say go for the Vox or the Sound Drive SG-15R.

Thanks for the input again, probably will try the amps recommended next month and decide which is the one for me.

Yeah the second hand market is big, do source around!

Oh yes I see you wanna play metal eh, but so far you've only got a bad monkey which is unable to give you high gain tones. Therefore a need for another dirt unit might suffice. If you don't intend to get any distortion pedals for the moment, then I would recommend an amp with decent built-in distortion then further push it with your bad monkey. In this case, I would gladly recommend you a Sound Drive SG-15, which is around your budget as well.

But if you intend to get distortion pedals, then the Pathfinder 15R would be a good buy!
