Where to REFRET?

how about standard value? ive read some good reviews. anyone knows how much?

mike does a good job at standard value..
i couldnt say this enough....
it cost like 250 for the entire fretboard to my sg...
and hes a great guy...

I have seen Mike's refretting job. Really top notch. No doubt about it and his price is much reasonable than most luthier/tech.

+1 to Standard Value. He's my number one go-to guy when it comes to technical stuff. His setups are amazing too. I haven't needed to get my low-end Ibanez a re-setup even after a year plus. Top-notch work there, and a very friendly guy too.

I think it is more expensive if the fretboard has binding, because the binding has to be removed first and put back later. But the type of wood, etc shouldn't really make a difference in the price, right?

maple should be more expensive due to the fact that there is laquer on the wood. I guess that makes it more difficult as the paint might chip off if the person doing it is not careful. however, that is just my assumption haha. could clarify with the tech.

Hmmm... Come to think of it, yeah. I tried a Lyon strat copy with all maple neck and the fretboard was really shiny compared with the back of the neck which had a dull natural finish.

Regarding stainless steel frets, maybe you might wanna try emailing Mike at Standard Value to clarify? Perhaps he might also do stainless steel frets. Stainless steel frets are tougher, right? Wonder if its possible to replace my normal medium frets with stainless steel ones...

Thats not true, the tangs at the binding area are trimmed to fit into the fretboard between the binding, the binding is always left on.

The trimming part is more time consuming, thus expect to pay more for the job.

As for woods, I think every self respecting tech who does refrets will take equal caution for lacquered (lacquer chipping) or unlacquered fretboards (wood chipping), thus I don't expect much difference in price between the 2.

Btw, SS frets are a pain to level and crown. Many techs in the US on forums hate to do it because it wears their equipment down much much faster than regular frets.
