where to get coiley cables?

i also wanna BUY!!!!!!!!!
anyway wads the diff btw normal ones..
and the coiled one....
or just the looks onli?

how are they priced?

Coiley cables are neater I guess, but then again, this may back fire and cause a crazy knot.haha. see how well you take care of your equipment la. also, it helps shorten the cable, yet giving you length when you need it. it's excellent!

coiley cables have their pros and cons.

firstly their cost depends on the brand. a vox one would be pretty affordable like 30bucks maybe? while a lava one costs 99bucks.

coiley cables are heavy, they dont tangle. some ppl like that some ppl dont.

on tone, if you care abt loss of highs and what not or use a long line of effects the coiley cable is not for you. coiley means more copper material inside means more capacitance. a fully stretched coiley cable can be more than 30ft. if its not a good quality cable thats maybe 40pF per ft you get a lot of highs choking capacitance.

if your guitar is too bright that might work in your favour. but for those who alrdy have pretty muddy guitars or a long line of true bypassed effects with no buffer its not a good idea to get a coiley cable. it'll be like putting a blanket over ur amp. exaggerated though

ive got myself a vox coiley cable recently for arnd 40bucks if im not mistaken from city music.

IMO, it is alot better than the higher end planet waves cable that i previously own.

just shipped a bullet coil from US. It DOES blanket your tone, but it doesnt really bother that much. definitely much better than the vox!

hey c.adl, how do you define "better" than your previous cables?

anyway, if coiley cables aren't the way to go, what brand of cables would you guys strongly recommend then?

when it comes to cables, choose something that works for you. we might think every cable simply connects the guitar to the amp, that's it but tone-wise, there are differences namely due to the wires & plugs used. the length of the cable also matters.

we would assume every cable sounds the same- not quite. you can hear differences whe you employ a stright-through connection (pedal-free) & A-B test it with other brand names.

it's also not about the physical nature- coiley/ straight/ black/ pink... it's the function that matters.

my off-the-shelf recommendations:

I'm always worried about stretching those "coiley" cables too much, you never know when the tension is too high and one end of the plug becomes disconnected and sprung away/towards you.

between the cable(be it coiled, straight or any other fancy one), its connected to the plug via soldering lead. To pull it hard, the probability of the whole cable(with the plug still intact) being pull out from the amp input jack or effect pedal input jack is much higher then the plug itself, getting dislodged with the cable.

Dont believe? Heh, go get any instrument cable with soldered plug and try to pull it apart, by hand. You need brute force for the thing to be separated, much higher than the normal/accidental pulling of guitar cable. The solder joint can withstand much higher force being exerted on it. Weakest link is the thin strand of cable thats being soldered.
