Anyone out there who plays the harmonica? Which brands are good? Wats the usual price range for the harmonica? Any good beginner books to introduce? I planning to play some blues with it.

Thanks man, that is a very good web! But anyone know wat is the price ranges for a relatively good chromatic harmonica?

I play a little.

Get the Horner marine band. It's the industry standard for blues. Can buy at swee lee or ranking.

Don't get the chromatic harmonicas, for blues usually people get the diatonics. Some use the chromatics but they are damn bloody pro and are few and far between.

The diatonics cost about $15 to $25 if i'm not wrong.

i thought as long as you don't touch the side lever, the chromatic harmonicas are identical to diatonics one...

No chromatic harmonicas have all the notes. Diatonic only has for one key. So a C harmonica will only have C D E F G A B, no sharps no flats. Of course, that's where bending comes in. You'll find that professional harmonica players who use diatonics will carry a bag filled with harmonicas of every key.

Hey man, the chromatic harps are not made for note bending. To my understanding, the reeds are too thin and will bend/warp too easily. The upside is the full chromatic scale as compared to diatonic scale.

Depending on what kinda music you wanna play. But if you wanna sound like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, etc... they play the diatonic. 2 simple C and G key harmonicas will actually suffice at first.

PM me if you wanna get harps. I'll point you in the right direction.

Paulo I don't recommend buying 2nd hand harmonicas. The mouth gunk and other horrible stuff build up. The reeds wear down also. Just get a new one, they aren't that expensive when you compare it to a guitar or a new effect.

agreed Ark on brand new, yet to bump into a B key one myself, wondering if you or anyone may have spotted 1 at our music stores.
