Because my LP Custom then had a back bow, and the truss rod had to be tightened. So, no matter what me or the guitar tech did, the neck only moved upwards and downwards above the 12th fret. We measured fret highets relative to sections, and found that no matter what, the neck only shifted with the neck at the 12th fret as a pivot point. There was only one conclusion to be drawn from that. A broken truss rod wouldn't shift anything.
I then check with one forum (can't remember which one, it was more than 2 years ago...) and found that this was a common problem with Epi LPs then. Maybe they've changed the construction. This wasn't an MIC one... I think it was MIK or something like that...
if it had a back bow, the truss rod should be loosened.
why on earth was it being tightened?
