Hi folks,

I've a really old Fender Acoustic guitar which i would like to get it serviced/checked for problems and also install a pickup system. any recommeded shops i can go and pickups to recommend..

so far i only know Fishman and B-band

Raymond from luthermusic did a great job restringing and setting my acoustic guitar. he also installs pickups from L.R. Baggs (RTS-II and Element Active, non-intrusive, no need substantial cutting at the side) and B-Band. More information here: http://www.luthermusic.com/category/accessories_guitar-acc-others/pickup-lr-baggs-rts-ii

other recommendations includes KC from maestro and malcolm from http://www.mtlutherie.com/ . I think uncle beez also does acoustic guitars but not often, he's mainly into electric guitars, i think.
then there's also mike from sv. too many, just a simple search on action setup will give you tonnes of info.

i really wanna see it  could u post a pic of it?

huh... it's nothing special lah. my friend gave me a few years ago, but he has been using it for many years, i also don't know exactly how long, but probaby 10-20yrs? eh i take pic n post later

Hey THANKS for the info... help me narrow down to the couple of shops. will take a look at them

Oh i one question, what is the damage i should be looking at for installation of pickup and maybe basic service so at least i can be mentally prepared =p

(i'm not fussy cos i'm not expert, so wouldn't need the best equipment)

region of $200? $300?

the link that i provided earlier: http://www.luthermusic.com/category/accessories_guitar-acc-others/pickup-lr-baggs-rts-ii should have given you some idea on pickup prices, the very decent and non-intrusive LR Baggs Active Element: "Now: S250.00 with installation and warranty. ( Requires 3-6 working days for installation )" .

for repairs or everything else, i think bring it to for them to quote easier, or email him at raymond@luthermusic.com first.

as a benchmark, maestro posts their repair fees online, http://www.maestroguitars.com/services/repairs.pdf

well really, all these could have been answered with a little google and searching within this forum and etc... i feel good to help, esp since i researched about them b4 and have some idea. BUT really, researching on the internet by yourself could also be fun too, and can learn new things and etc...

anyway, that's a really nice guitar, get it working please!

thats nice .. u can try a dimarzio PU systems for accoustic... it'll be placed on the hole... easy installation

after doing a little searching here n there... decide that i'll bring my guitar down to Luthermusic this evening to get my saddle n nut changed, n a proper setting up... after all the knocks n ill treatment it's been recieving from me all these years, hope i can make up for it, also bought a heavily paddded Warwick Rockbag for it.

however still pondering between a K&K western mini pickup (passive) for $180 (inclusive of installation +$50 for vol control) or the LR Baggs Elemment Active for $250 (inclusive installation +$30 vol, tone control).... hmmm

just an update.

brought my guitar down to Luthermusic yesterday (had a hard time finding it cos i was confused between excelsior shopping centre n peninsular shopping centre... haha...

anyways decided to get a replacent bone nut n saddle with a proper set up... excited... gonna install a K&K PWM when it comes back... now gonna research on amps

maybe just a quick update for my own thread...

got my Fender back from Raymond (Luthermusic) yesterday... been a loong wait but it's well worth it... action is nice n low, so much better n easier to play now. as for sound, though my ears still very amateur, but sounds brighter, longer sustain... now it's with Hann for the K&K installation, actaully it's done just need to pick it up...

next stop, hit the stores for an affordable acoustic amp... suggestions please. so far i found 2 from Maestro estore a 12W Randal and a 10W Stagg, any comments?
