I fully support the idea :D Why haven't you? A lot of female vocalists here need your expertise, even me..

prolly coz I dun have the patient with the slow learners ..previously some of them cursed me, some burst into tears ... SUSAH LAH ....

All this was when I was training female singers for my friend's band ...

Rite now I'm semi trainning Retro Groove's (my band http:retro-groove.blogspot.com ) female vox Fiona - she was ok to start with but has improved tremendously since joining us.

Sometimes at Dan Music (my hang out) the girls from next door (Some music school) do pop by for a short chat & tips on singing etc ... but thats about all

Yo dudes,
my 2 cents worth is that i 2nd fgl's idea of practising with CDs.. Simply because if a person listens carefully and sings along, stops the CD, sings again, and patiently repeat the process till its quite clear that u sound good (on the pretext that u are not tone deaf). You would have picked up some skills as well as the general tone of the singer.

Problems Raised:

1. Lack of Originality.

This is something i beg to differ. Simply because I believe originality in today's context is but a blend of our musical influences. On the contrary, i believe that emulating multiple artists from multiple genres would be key to generating originality.

2. The Whole "Singapore Idol" Tone Deaf People mentioned by Khai Han

Hmm.. I totally agree that occurs. But I think that's because those people probably never performed, or performed and didn't realise how bad they were, or their friends were just too evil to not tell them that they really can't sing.

So, I'd think its best to get a bunch of other singers or musicians to sing together after practising.. To know where you stand, how u can improve and whether ur speaking emotion into their hearts when u sing!

Haha.. I'm no pro.. but this is just how i view it to be... :)

My opinion:

You have to be cautious with singing with CDs because every singer has different techniques. Choosing the wrong one could cause you disaster. They might sound really great during the recording, but no one knows what happens after. There's always audio editing to fine-tune and perfect the recording too. Be cautious on that.
