well bro

the stingray bass was designed by LEO FENDER for starters. LEO fender is also the guy who gave the world the FENDER PERCISION and FENDER JAZZ bass , which are staples for almost any bassist in the world.

the STINGRAY bass is unique due to it being the first bass to feature a humbucker at pole position. critics of it have called it a one trick pony, as the tonal reproduction with a single humbucker at the pole position has made it rather limited in terms of versatality of tone.

however, aside from this lack of tonal range. the stingray bass has a great sound and is very very famous for its low mid-range FUNK sound. It has alot of midrange , little of the Percision bass harsh bite or the jazz bass treble inclination. it is perfectly smack in the middle of the two.

the stingray is a very popular bass namely because of two things. the sound produced / tone of the bass is superb, but i digress, this is highly subjective. some love the sound , others just cant stand it. the stingray bass is also very very very good for slapping .

well my brother just got one. well even as a guitarist i was tempted to buy it. it has the most amazing feel n sound wise beats all other basses (mind u ive tried stuff like micheal tobias design). but anyway its subjective so i recommend u to try it out. to me the sound is very versatile. i mean how many sounds do u need outta one bass?

Hmm, but Leo Fender later went to further improve by introducing dual Hunbuckers in GnL after he left Music Man.
So GnL was his last company he was in.

So technically speaking, from Pre-CBS to Music Man to GnL surely the electronics must have improved.

G&Ls are also very well built instruments esp their basses.

The MFD pickups are passive, but behave like active pickups. The basses are powered by a 2EQ preamp. Furthermore, there is a passive/active switch in the preamp. So whenever you're in a gig and your batt dies out, you can switch it over to passive preamp.

The preamp however, is cut only. can't boost the eq. that's my only gripe...

actually beaten up guitars are okay right...i mean like it doesn't affect the tone unless one whole chunk of the wood comes off.
