what to get next?

right now i have a budget of about $1000 accumulated over a while to buy guitar stuff, but i'd like opinions on what would be the next thing to get that would be most of an improvement over my current gear.

right now i'm using a LTD EC series(les paul copy) with EMG 81 pickups fitted in that i bought 2nd hand, an unknown modded boss sd-1, a boss ds-1 and a boss DD-3 into the cheap marshall mg15cdr beginner amp. i play mainly rock to metal.

should i get a:

1) new guitar. I'm looking at either a better les paul copy, like maybe a PRS tremonti SE or singlecut SE. Or a ibanez RG, but i hesitate because i don't know how to operate or restring a trem. i don't really want a strat because i don't think it would fit what i play.

2) new amp + pedals. i'm looking at the vox ac4tv which would leave me enough to get a wah & phaser. but i'd rather much get a new guitar and leave the effects for later. since i only use my amp when i'm at home.

opinions and such would be welcome!

hey dude. im using a ltd too. f-2e. alr changed stuffs here and there and now it sounds awesome. i play rock to metal too. looking from what ur guitar has..its quite good alr. dont bother abt new guitars yet, imho. get effects to cover ur range of genres. can ur boss ds1 really give you the metal sound? imo, i find that it lacks the bass. so why not improve ur pedals! :D regarding amps..that shld be last? coz im using a marshall mg15dfx at home. and it serves it purpose well. getting a too good amp to me is kinda useless coz when you go for gigs or smth, you wont be using ur amp. ur amp is mainly for prac purposes. well these are my opinions. :D no offence :D

Get a better distortion pedal!
You wont need tube amps for playing rock or metal, tube amps just sound better cos there's more "warmth" for blues or jazz, IMO.
Anyway, that will leave you more space for other effects like wahs, flangers, delays, etc.

90% of metal and rock guitarist uses tube amps.

90% of the metal and rock guitarist are famous, rich and loaded.

if your a beginner i dont suggest getting a tube amp,as replacing them can be costly over the years. The 15w marshall amp is pretty decent enough.
probably should get "better" pedals.or maybe try a multi-efx?
and strats can play metal very well

true abt the guitarist being loaded, but
having a better sounding amp would encourage the user to play more as the feeling and sounding of a tube amp is different :)

I would not spend anything if you ask me. I would save up for a real ESP/Jackson/Musicman/Ibanez Prestige/PRS guitar or a good practice amp. I cant really stand MGs, they just sound like a box of bees on OD to me, and the speakers arent that good in my opinion.

If you must spend the cash due to GAS, and if you're looking for effects, I would suggest taking a look into the Line6 M9 which is a multi efx unit that's small and easy to carry round with you.

Guitarwise, you can look into the PRS SE models or maybe a Sterling AX-40(Musicman axis copy) or AX-20 if you dont want a trem.

Yeah to me getting efx was the 'logical' option even though I really wanted to get a new guitar.

BTW my DS-1 is modded too.. it's a DIY clone of some keeley mod. it doesn't really get a 'metal' tone but i like the sound. though i think i want to get another overdrive pedal to replace it eventually.

i wanted to get another guitar was because when i play my friends guitars with passive pickups, i think they sound 'sweeter'.. it's like with the EMGs, the gain/drive control on my pedals and amp become far less sensitive, it's high drive all the way. though they do sound better in certain ways.

but now i think i'll wait till later and save to really get a real gibson les paul or something.

So right now I'm leaning rather to get a wah first. I tried the Crybaby GCB95 and i think it sounds... poor tbh, i don't know why though haven't really tried wahs. anyone has any recommendations on other wahs

get a couple of monitor/reference speakers, a digital multiefx pedal (with amp modelling capabilities, like pod xt or boss gt, etc), all plugged in to ur pc and u'll have a mini recording station with pretty decent tones from the multi-efx.

(this is just a quick reference of what u can do with the money... to record u will need a few more things)
