fenderrules

New member
have you ever encountered them??

my drummer joined my band about 5 or 6 months ago and we have been jamming since. it was until later in july he started to become quite disinterested with the music we make (indie rock) and even sent a message to my friend (who also knows him and is my guitarist) that he "feels nerd when i play with fenderrules" i later realized that he kept asking me to play some thrash metal during a serious practice session for a school event this week. from the start ive made it clear to him what music we were making and i wanted commitment and seriousness from him, and he can opt to be out provided he tells me. he didnt, and at the last minute he gave signs that he wasnt interested, and eventually made his way out. call me harsh, but im really disappointed at his attitude and his dishonesty.

and who says playing indie rock is nerdy

so yeah, what do i do with these kind of people??

thanks and cheers

i'd punch him in the jaw for saying playing indie rock is nerdy

yea i've encountered this, more than just a drummer for me. Cloudsky said it all, its the best thing to do.

Hmm.

Listen to thrash metal (or any music ur drummer wants to try) for a while and see whether you feel anything for it. If it isn't your cup of tea, then obviously your interests and his differ.

And as mentioned above by Softies, move on. Isn't the grass always greener on the other side?

You have to think about what's the point of jamming for him lor.

if

1) he's not improving (maybe that's why he's suggesting thrash metal..)
2) no chance of playing to an audience (maybe that's why he feels nerd just jamming)
3) no interest in the genre (duh)

If he's not learning anything new, nothing's happening..

then there's no point jamming for him is there? Don't take it personally, find another drummer... move on..

Hmm.

Well take it as a learning experience.

I spent 9 mths trying to find the right people and put them together. It worked out for a while but in the end I cancelled everything because of school commitments.

Worth it? A waste of time? I think not.

In the same way we GAS for gear due to the continuous drive to perfect our tone (or to just satisfy our gear-purchasing jones), we're also trying to find the best combination possible so that everyone in the band/group can shine.

There's always a bigger fish lah, so dun give up esp since you're young. I'm nto that old either, but I've definitely been there, and done that.

Noobs to punctuality problems.... you name some of them, I got most of them before. :D

seriously, you may be disappointed and all but that's the way it is. move on and find another drummer! anyway i know you haha we jammed before. is the drummer you;re talking about that drummer that day?

drop 'em like a piece of hot coal... unless they give me a REALLY gd reason, i would nvr again consider them for another band project... neither for my friends' nor my own...

Probably because at this age the anti-authoritarian image associated with metal is cooler than the one associated with indie rock? Being embarrassed playing a "nerdy" genre in public from the way I'm reading it. The same reason why you don't see the cool kids playing pop rock. :P

Playing in a band is just as much about the personal relationship you have with your bandmates as it is about the music. You need to be able to respect each other. Try to reconcile your opinions on the kind of music your band should play. If you can't find agreement, it might be time for one of you to move on.

2 cents.

its not jus better for your band if he leaves. but its better for himself if he left too. since he dont feel part of the genre anymore.

singapore got so many musicians, so....kick him out and move on. Music is your place of pleasure and solace, if your bandmate can intrude that area and not share the same interests, boot his ass out la

Hmm,not too many. I suggest u keep a record of their names, contacts,MSN etc..for future references to prevent wasting your time on them again and move on look for other musicians. No two person is alike, but then again here in Singapore about 60-70% musicians (if u label them as) are not serious.Just avoid them but don't create war and spread bad words on them.It is not Isreal and lebanon. It's only difference in commitment level.
