what to buy for a new electric guitar ?

hmmm....can always change the pickups..but the guitar variation is a lot. you get a smaller scale to a large scale from a trem to non trem from a thin to a fat neck..everything..

.Some of the Soft members are going for a mass order from Japan's Ishibashi.

How much discount can we get from a MASS order from Japan? I really dun mind MIJ strat, infact i saw something like a black Fender Aerodyne Strat AST65 that i think is really very cool or a 3 tone sunburst strat. If i can get a hand on a good condition 2nd hand guitar that it's ok as well, but some that i saw really beat to shit.

thanks brother timex...

we save quite OK ...

hmmz for example , the onli retailer tt carries the aerodyne strat (on a per order basis) carries it for about 1300 or 1400 if i m not mistaken. thereabouts in terms of price.

from ishibashi + shipping + lots of love from japan :P all yours at >1,000 SGD.

if you want a basic fender entry level strat/tele , it can be had for about $750 ( 34,400 yen + shipping) . which another singapore retailer lists for 890 or 900 plus reigion

Hey spikes i disagree with wad u say about strat. I dun own one personally but i love the strat.
I think people usually buy other things cuz if u wanna get a good strat, u gotta pay quite high. As in those made in USA. And normally, i'm saying normally only those made in USA are considered real strats.

However ibanez range is cheaper and the 24frets, humbuckers, locking trem appeals to rockers. normally youngsters are mostly rockers.. so yea u get my point.

And for around 1k+ u can actually get a prestige series from ibanez which i wld say is the high end models of ibanez(not talking about artist range or the j.custom).

1k+ from fender get wad? Cant even get a second hand american strat. Maybe the highway1 which to me is not wad a true USA strat is. Get my point?

please, dont discriminate fenders that are not pure USA... take a 60s70s fender and compare it with a highway, it sounds much closer to the vintage ones... not even a pure american series can sound as close as a 60s70s american standard... wanna know whats different about it??? replace it with the american series pickup and the two point saddle, and everythings the same... every single material used in the highway is used for the am std... except for pickups and the bridge...

p.s you wont believe my age...

this Ibanez depicted below, moves away from a certain shred-only inclination, often typified by the RG... for those of us who dare to venture away from the Fender/ Gibson camp, it's a worthy consideration.

hmm i'm not tt good in this since i just recently started out and bought my own guitar and is semi self learning with much guidance by my beloved cousin.

Initially i started out with a budget of say 1k and was intending to get a fender strat but realised 1k wasn't really enough to get a fender with a decent amp....

so in the end my budget was cut to bout 750 for guitar and amp (and oso thinking bout how i'm starting out and a really good guitar would be a waste on a stupid noob like me....)

got myself a deluxe squier strat and a roland cube.....(i love my squier very much now thou... ...plays like magic....)

was thinking of whether to get a squier strat or telecaster too before that too b4 i decided on my strat....reasons being...(thou i never tried a telecaster yet....only a highway strat...)

1) the SSS pickups....the versatille part yea.....u regret bout this...lol
i can't imagine myself now trying to play enter sandman pn distortion with a telecaster....
:o

2) Strats are sexy. haha.....always wanted a strat.... :partyman:

Hmm judging by the genres of music u listen to...i guess both the teles and strats are an option or even a epi les paul.....
for clean sounding fenders strats or teles are ur best bet....

if u like crisp and clean tones.....SSS / SSsetups are prob for you....
Warm / Creamy tones....HH for you....
or the option of a HSS's good too since u could switch between using a single coil or ur H....

As for the fretboard.....i generally find Rosewood easier to play ( as a newbie) den a laquered maple board....oso another thing to notice would be the shape of ur fretboard.....be sure to try out b4 buying.....
some fret boards can get really thick....and i find them harder to play......

well well.... as personal perference, i actually condemn Fender USA. Will NEVER buy anything from them. Just personal perference, please don;t flame me... HAHAHA..

open minded? Ibanez is truly a great guitar to play on, all that shredding stuff you know... but i feel its tone i more for metal... and yes, a lil bit for rock(paul gilbert and all that)

Yeah I agreed with bro Sub! haha... I have that guitar with a marshall amp and it sings.... it's easy to use to... have a deep tone and well is quite versatile with a decent amp.

well i got this crazy theory of practicing with crappy guitar and playing well with my actual MIA strat.

well its just ur mind thingy.

no matter what, a 250 samick guitar will sound sh*t while a MIA Strat will sound 9349034809482094829849 times better.

u strum an open chord on the samick. omg yuck.

u strum another open chord on the strat. woah clapton baby

hmm....i''m in question..new to electric guitar and you are going for a 1k guitar already...no offence, but..would you like to reconsider or something?

well, I am new to electric guitar but not new to guitar. Even when i just started learning to play the acoustic, I will try to buy the best guitar i can afford then... (i broke my piggy bank and brought a 500 dollar acoustic then, it's still with me till now). I am serious about my hobby and i know where my passion is.

I am not saying that the cheaper guitar are of inferior quality but if i have my eye of something better and as long i can afford it and not too extravagant, must well bite the bullet and get what u want. Sometime it's the quality that count rather than quantity. I may able to get more from the similar amount but if all of the stuff is not what i want, then what's the point.

Nothing is like the real McCoy...you pay what u get, not for everything tho.

No doubt about Ibanez make good guitars, especially with steve vai, paul gilbert and many guitar legrand endorsing it but I just think the sound abit too raw for me now.

crappy guitar has a bad touch like action too high, fret buzz not straight neck etc etc... whereas fender has got low action no fret buzz straight neck, garantee to shred like malmsteen...

hi,

read all the opinions from all. nobody is right and no body is wrong. ever one has their own unique tastes. or else, there will only be 1 type of guitar. :)

RIFF, at the end of the day, only you can decide what is the sound that appeals to you.

If you are getting a new guitar, it will be worth joining the mass purchase, coz a new guitar will sound the same regardless where you buy it from.

But if you ever consider getting used guitars, especially vintage type. Try not to buy it if you can't try it (e.g. the internet). Even if shops in Singapore cost more, it is still better to get it locally. A lot of risk involve (not just referring to fraud).

Cheers!
