what strings to buy?

sidetrack! i'm considering to get the hi-beams by DR strings but i've heard good stuff about the sadowsky blue label series... can anyone tell me the pros and cons of each type of strings? (so i can get a good gauge of what i'm expecting) thanks!

I'm using DR Hi-beams on my bass right now. Personally i think DR's quality varies quite alot, it's a bad thing cos when you buy the strings you'll pray it'll be a good set. I had a run-in with DR before. Overall i think hi-beams suits my bass/preamp/pickup the best, amongst all the strings i've used. The highs are not harsh, like others, and the lows are warm with enough body.

Bought a set of long necks (tapered ends at the ball) and strung it up on my yamaha BBN5A. The intonation went totally off. It was so bad. I only could play until the 12th fret, any higher and it'll go out of tune even though my strings are in tune. Contacted them, and they sent me a new set of strings. (whoo! wonderful service).

I used to use D'addario but personally i find them sterile. Their strings are consistent and sound good but it's just a feeling thing you know. For a period of time i was using Warwick red label strings, i loved their slap tone when it's up on my bass but the strings died quite fast and it felt stiff, like it just didn't want to move.

BTW i'm using .045 gauge.

Tried Thomastik Infields (from Cherns, RDM Gear) but it didn't suit my tastes. Very old-school i feel. Tried rotosounds but it didn't have that zing i wanted. Good set of strings though, their tone remains consistent for a long time.

Okay, i think that's about it. I think i'll check out the Sadowsky Blue Nickels.

i use d'addarios for my bass and my classical guitar, and for my 6 string electric guitar i use ernie ball super slynkies
