What songs should a beginner learn to play on an electric guitar?

really depends on your tastes...

I remember learning Nirvana songs first.
pretty good to teach you right/left hands coordination

Oasis is a good choice too
Metallica can be a bit challenging at first but it is reachable for a beginner too (black album for instance)

you may want to start learning the chords and some theory.
if you practice slowly you can play pretty must anything (I slow down my mp3s to practice and then I play at normal speed using Guitar Trainer)

hmm, metallica is a good choice.sweet child o' mine by gnr is also rather easy for beginners.if you want more power chords and such,try greenday, yellowcard, the darkness

sweet child o mine can lead to some frustration... the string skipping arpeggio on the beginning can be chalenging for beginners.

then there are 2 solos...

brit pop is easier because of the power chords.
very good for right/left hands synchronization

just play whatever that you like. it's more fulfilling if you can play your fav bands guitar riffs than play songs from a band that have easy songs but you dont really like.

really guys: I am no pro yet after a while I figured out what would work out better for me:

- learn something easy (because it is satisfying to be able to play something from start to finish)
- try something a little harder each time (practice technique)

but each time:
I slow down my backing tracks.
50% slower to start with then I increase the speed.

by slowing down everything and increasing the speed a little bit every time you can be sure you'll be able to play whatever you want in no time

Lol the whole BFMV album lol erm firstly are you toking abt beginner in elec or acous? For either I suggest playing like greenday, 3 doors down, nickelback and wat not , nirvana/misfits are ausome too. Smells like teen spirit is a must learn, and astro zombie(misfits) is a funky song tts super easy. But ultimately i recommend u mate to jst learn watever song rocks ur boat just be patient no song is impossible to play. peace!
