As a budding musician, i found myself having to play live and jam on a weekly basis in studios and in church, so i felt that a good guitar and a pedalboard (either analogue or MFX) would be better for sound as i don't lug my amplifier around.
If you are going to have a band, get a good guitar perhaps an ibanez RG trem series (or the new S series with 24 frets if you can afford it), then the amplifier since i see that you already have a great sounding GT-8..
Your RG321 should be great sounding for any fixed bridge work, or drop-D configs. Change the pickups if u want...
Tube amps are good, but however, metal bands also use a lot of solid state amps... a good solid state amp is the 100watt sound drive, 2 x 12 celestion amp that can be found at standardvalue.
If you like tube amps, theres alot of choices, like Marshall AVT, Orange amps, etc etc...
There is nothing wrong with having a second guitar as its always good to have a backup, so go ahead and research on what you want.
basically, how i narrowed my search for my main axe was: What kind of guitar i want? What kind of bridge i want? Pick ups and configurations? Guitar Neck dimensions?
Once you start finding out what type of preferences you have, your choices will start to narrow down to a few guitars. Oh, and recently i've played the Marlique guitars that was from indonesia? Its 24 frets with a wilkinson bridge, PRS type, with powerful Tesla pickups... it was so tempting that my friend bought one on the spot as it was only $999... LOL...
But Ibanez is my choice for a heavy riffing guitar.. after all, i own 2 Ibanezes...
